When you're pissed to soak up the ale. Italian food is always the best they _ sober, drinking, and drunk.
Tell you though, my daughter, who worked at the aforementioned Delrio's, does her own pizzas in summer on a stone on the barbeque with a sauce she makes herself. As long as you don't overload it (I like EVERYTHING on a pizza) it's magnificent. Has this smokey thing going on. But to me - pizzas are all about the sauce and the base (obvious, yes) - the toppings are nice, but they're an illusion. If you don't get the sauce and base right, the toppings are irrelevant.
I got given a pizza stone that goes in oven (or can use on bbq) and make hem fully from scratch dough, sauce etc. when done right they piss over anything can get from shops or places like dominos etc. but you have to get a proper pizza stone so cooks the base properly.
Yep. Daughter's a nurse, but she did her sixth form and uni in an Italian as a part-time job. Utterly gorgeous if done properly, and she makes a mean sauce, some in the blender, some with the hand whisk. Does her own dough too. Oven and barbeque - well-made pizza is not just beer or fast food, it's up there with roasts and curries.
True dat. You can really kill a good pizza by putting so much topping on it that it looks like a dog has spewed on an orange paper plate.
So this is a stupid question probably.... but you say pizza is bread and sauce. So is the cheese content actually then a "topping" ans not strictly needed Esp in copious American quantities.
Evidently so, in Italy: Is It Still Pizza Without Cheese? – My House of Home Oven Pizza (myhouseofpizza.com)
Id say in Italy it’s def a topping. When we were in Italy a lot of them just had a couple bits of proper mozzarella dolloped on rather than spread all over. And s number of them are things like ham and Brie so the standard layer of cheese isn’t even a thing. plus there were a few that were garlic and spinach with no cheese at all
The comparison was to Papa John's etc... Usually I do, but once a month or so buy dinner out for the family. Or sometimes life is to busy ( like right now between houses) I get off work. Hour commute home. Go to new house, hang shelves or whatnot to get it ready to move. Probably about 7 by then. I don't have time to cook at the moment... In a few weeks all will be back to normal and I can again. In all honesty though, when it comes to pizza, I don't think I could make a large pizza for $5 from scratch at home. I'm pretty sure the ingredients would come to more than that.
Depends what you have on it. The base ingredients here cheap though. About 50p for big bag of flour, similar for some yeast. Can buy some chopped tomatoes for about 40p a tin. It’s really only the cheese and toppings that will be expensive.
