What that thread fails to do, and it's common on all sides, is look at the holistic issues. Any health protection initiative, should also include the wider impacts on society and health. For example, if the measures result in reduced physical activity, reduced income, reduced access to health services for other conditions etc etc, they all need to be included in the final assessment of the measures to be put in place. That needs to include the long term impact of stress and reduced education on other members of society. What covid has done, is woken people up to how data is manipulated and abused, how models need to clearly demonstrate the uncertainties associated with the inputs, and how the 'solution' to one specific problem can generate problems in other areas, and these need to be fully considered and accounted for. Often, by the time it's gone through the filters of panels, politicians and the media, the final output bares very little resemblance to the science that was supposed to underpin it. The IPPC reports are a case in point. What this should hopefully do is cause people to seriously question some of the measures being pushed ahead under the 'green' banner. After all, despite what the 'you're a denialist' lobbyists would have you believe, is a key element of the scientific process and has resulted in many major advances in understanding of many, many topics. Good scientists are always skeptics.
