Interesting that he’s seen 48hours and can see it. Speakman needs the boot, the whole squad is disjointed. Neil understands what needs to get out of the league above never mind this.
What play offs ? you get a team like Bolton no where near the top 6 then make it with a game left ! us play them no chance, stuff it might has well finish 7th and right this season off but where the hell do we go in the summer biggest disaster in our history this season is going to be.
It looks that way at the minute but if we were to make the play offs from here we would have to be in decent form and also not gutted to have just missed out on the automatics. We’d have a decent chance I think.
I wouldn't say the squad is disjointed, we are just light in some areas. We've been so unlucky with injuries (again) but the defensive options in the squad are poor. Makes the decision to sell Flanagan and Hume all the more baffling
Or we build again under Neil. Hit the playoffs with real momentum and get promoted All speculation. Neither of us knows how it’s going to pan out but Chose optimism mate it feels better
IMO McGeady would've made a big difference today, no one really had the confidence to carry the ball into the area or shoot from distance.
Pure footballing terms we were pretty ****e today Neil has a big job on his hands but Johnson had lost his way. Telling he only had 40 mins with the players Looking forward to next Saturday will give us a real indication of what we can expect.
Can tell already if he can bring success on the pitch he will be a very well liked manager here. No nonsense straight talking bloke, which will be appreciated by fans. Let's hope he find a way to get this lot playing again as the change from early on in the season is night and day. Let's hope he can make an impact like he said in 40 minutes he doesn't even know their names properly yet!
Good on him for saying the sqaud isnt right. We arent as good as we have been told we are. Other league one squads are much more rounded than we are. Hopefully he insists on some freedom to go into free agent market, but it is slim pickings in there.
Using Defoe as an example there were a good few of us saying if AOB went we needed two strikers if Defoe was one of them - in case Stewart lost form, got tired or injured. The majority said otherwise.
Our injuries returning would help massively. O'Nien would currently be better than two or three players in different positions. McGeady would have the confidence to get at defences and shoot from distance. Broadhead would take the weight off Stewart and run at defenders. Huggins would be our best defender. Can we have them all back on Saturday ...
Nailed it with his post match comments. Looking forward to next Saturday after he has them in training for a full week
He can't get them fitter at this stage though. The team is very young and has been over played. You could see it a bit back, and the tiredness is mental as much as physical. The injuries dont help, but the calamitous way the the squad has been set up is the problem. What a few of them need is a break. A fishing trip or whatever it is the do. Away from football. We can't do that, but Clough, Fergie, and others have long understood the value of a freshening break. Hard to see how Neil can get more energy into them, though a win would help.
I don't think anyone said we didn't need another but didn't seem like the club was looking. Also it's a big ask in January, we needed a striker of quality that would probably be first team league 1 or bench championship if would they be willing to come to be Stewarts understudy/backup? We definitely need another striker and the defence needed additions. Still can't believe they let players leave before replacements?
You're right mate, it's been a hard season. He needs to get them playing smarter rather than harder. All these L1 teams can run, we need to be clever when we have the ball.
