Not too despondent after that. Quite a few plus points, & Barnard is back! Now theres some competition hotting up! Well played youngsters.
Not even disappointed, tbh. That's that competition out of the way. Roll on Saturday. We'll take the League Cup a bit more seriously when we've got our Premier League status nicely established.
few positives: barnard's back good performances from reeves and ward-prowse few negatives: cork isnt a CB johnathon forte can't play for toffee
I'm in two minds about this result. One one hand I hate losing and am a little disappointed. On the other, I am not that bothered to be out of the cup, the league is far more important. But, it doesn't matter what competition we're in or whether it's the reserves or the first choice 11 playing, the away form needs to improve. One positive - Barnard is back. Oh well, onto Saturday and three points against Boro.
Not up front by himself, no. Agree with you about JWP, but not too sure about Reeves. Can't say that he really stood out for me on the radio.
Hopefully that's enough to get Barney a place on the bench on Saturday (presumably in place of Harding - can't have Harding and Martin using up two slots on the bench). Great to see him back.
Shame, woulda liked to of reached quarter finals. Not too bothered, but if we drew someone like Arsenal or Man city away, would of been a great day out, win or loose.
Driving back as I type (my dads driving) thought we played well but lacked in the final 3rd even after barny had come on, lambert made a difference upfront when he came on. Spiderman was stunning ALL game and I feel proud to have him wearing a saints shirt! Now I'm guessing you'd all love to know about ward-prowse! He played well looked calm on the ball and has more strength than you'd first think he wasn't stunning but I didn't expect him to be, looks like him,Morgan and cork will be our core midfield for years to come! Holmes had an average game nothing bad but nothing particularly good. It's a similar story with de ridder, would have liked to have seen him take on his man more often. Harding and butters both played well I'd say butters was a little iffy defending but going forward he was solid. Cork didn't play too badly but he is not a cb. Martin was solid all game and I was very impressed with him! Bart had nothing to do all game really had no chance with either goal but his distribution was good! Our fans were brilliant theirs were dreadful! However some stupid prick kept picking fights near me and had to be escorted out! His son was with him which makes it all the more disgusting!
glad to hear good reports about Morgan, Martin and Ward-Prowse especially - him, schneiderlin and cork are our prem midfeild as you said what did you think of young Ben Reeves may i ask?
Nigel has just said on Radio Solent that he was happy with Ward-Prowse's performance. The Palace crowd sounded pretty crap on the radio. They only started making a noise after going 1-0 up.
adkins says: ward-prowse was outstanding, reeves had a good game some players did no favours (forte probably) both goalies hardly had anything to do, positives to take from the game great to see lee barnard back, been challenging for him to return lee holmes was going to figure at derby but injured, pleasing to see him return committed to youth system, pleased to get some playing make sure players had opportunities, transfer window looming we dominated football, they had no chances of note didnt have the cutting edge up front morgan had a very good game cork is versatile, pleased to get him at CB trying to encourage development players, good to see harlee dean and aaran racine return from injury at CB ward-prowse not fazed, training with 1st team last season, great experience no matter his performance
He did well some good touches and good feet bit didn't really make goal keeper work as much as id of liked but that's not entirely his fault
Probably a good thing Dickson was injured in the end. Playing in that game might have done his Saints career more harm than good.
its pretty harmed in the 1st place, are any of tonights players saints career going to be harmed in the long run? No.
Just got back home, as its my local ground. So disappointed because they weren't great at all, fuming with the ref because he gave nothing to us until the 85th min, it was truly shocking reffing, for instance I think Reeves got smacked from behind on the edge of the box and the ref played on and we lost the ball. There was no advantage there so not sure what the ref was on, everytime they went down they got the decision. Forget the ref onto the players. Bart- Had nothing to do, but distribution was very good even when put under pressure he could still get the ball up field with both feet. Butterfield- Mixed game, few good crosses, few shocking crosses, few good passes, few atrocious passes (you can see what i am getting at) Cork- Very good first half, at fault for the 1st goal as he seemed to slice it to the winger who crossed in for Ambrose. Martin- Very very good defensive display, won headers, played some great cross field balls, all round good game Harding- Good first half, shocking second half, lost the ball and at fault for pen (can't confirm it was a pen but he never complained so guess it was) De Ridder- First 10/15mins was brilliant had the beating of the defence, for the rest of the game not so good, nothing fell for him, few mis place corners and passes. Reeves- Showed a lot of potential in the first 30 mins then drifted out of game, this guy has alot going for him and could be a great player for us. Schneiderlin- Man of the Match, a world class display for any CM, won tackles, broke out from defence, passing was incredible, best player on the pitch by a mile!! Ward-Prowse- Nervous start, but settled in well, never looked out of place and is definatly one for the future. Holmes- Decent game, few good crosses, had the beating of the defender. Didn't really put a foot wrong. Forte- Had one chance on target, didn't do anything to help his case by winning the fans over, probably the reason why we lacked in the final third. Barnard/Lambert/Guly- Flurry of chances when they came on, even Guly almost scored from a free-kick. Great to see Barnard back. Overall, any loss is disappointing. But great that all the players got some minutes on the pitch and no injuries. Players shall be fresh for saturday where we can now concentrate on the league again!
