I am not sure which I found more ridiculous
The non penalty decision or the commentary team back tracking once they realised that it was indeed a penalty <doh>
Surely the term he was a bit late covers this

It was the clearest penalty you'll ever see. I watch the game on silent so have no idea what was said about it. Was there a reason given why VAR didn't get involved?

Just to add, Leicester have got a lot of whingey, whiney players. I put Tielemans in that bracket too and hope we aren't interested in him.

    No idea
I watch the BT games round at my mates house and we were going bat **** crazy lmao

I heard GH fob it off with some ridiculous comment that hinted the challenge came in after his shot so it wasn’t a pen
Which I always thought was late
A scissors tackle from back/side and zero contact
    No pen
    Gotta laugh really
And nothing even made of it - that ls the best bit

All I heard them say was VAR had checked and it was a fair challenge lmao

VAR reviewed it and where happy with the descion, which just begs the question exactly what would he have to have done for it to be given as a penalty?

I think it came not long after Klopp told Kavanagh his fortune over him awarding free kicks for every flop, so we were never going to get it. It's not the referee's job to be vindictive. It's his job to referee to the rules of the game.

To be Frank, I've lost most of my faith in referees, I was quite hopeful when var was first introduced that it would help. Possibly correct some of the missed descions.

It's just added another layer to an already thick cake of ineptitude.

I'm sure when VAR first came in they were talking about having 3 officials reviewing the footage so any decisions made would have to be 2 to 1. That sounded a lot better than what they ended up with. Some officials have known biases and the less chance for them to put those into practice, the better.

The fuss over VAR taking too long too often has made them retreat a little on it.
It's not as intrusive as it first was, but the ratio of good to bad decisions hasn't improved at all as far as I'm concerned.
I said right from the start that too many refereeing decisions are subjective and VAR can't change that.

    It's not about them though.
VAR is just a camera system, the decisions are still made by people and so will inevitably be subjective. The only difference is that the VAR ref gets to see re-runs from different angles - you'd hope that this would improve their decision-making but I never held out hope for such a radical change in human nature.

None of the ball and all of the man........it's a pen.

VAR spent a few seconds deciding there was no issue <doh>

Perhaps they were trying to make up for the one we got against Palace which wasn't even remotely a pen. <whistle>

i disagree. They are the ones who have essentially dictated how VAR is used. I do agree that it will always have a degree of subjectivity but how the FA have executed the use of the technology is shocking and poorly thought out.

It'll never be any good, but we'll just get used to it.

Eventually, all the grumpy ****ers that don't like change will die off leaving just the youngsters that know no different... #optimism

Am I a grumpy ****er? Obviously.
Do I dislike change? Well, it depends on the change. I don't have an aversion to new things (I have a real flushing toilet - and that electricity stuff in my cave), but neither do I uncritically embrace new things in the erroneous belief that all things new are by definition an improvement.
However, you're right - one day I and my kind will be dust and the ones that follow will never know the joy of spontaneously celebrating a great goal without having to wait for the dreaded "VAR are having a look at this".
The game is having the life sucked out of it, and it's not as though we're getting all the right decisions in return.

I realise that - I was just playing the game too. <ok>
I agree with you, I've said all along I don't like it but we'll all get used to it. As you say, younger generations will grow up with it and won't know any different. Like a lot of people now don't remember a time when diving and feigning injury wasn't so prolific and they just accept that as part of the game.
