For sure. He was far from the only offender and that includes the coach. You can carry one or two sub-par performances and one-off errors if the system is right, and vice-versa, but when they’re both wrong then you lose more often than not, and look bad doing so.

While it's understandable for us to look at our team and see the shortcomings, in football there is always another factor; the opposition.
It's not the first time I have seen Southampton dominate and outplay teams like Liverpool and Chelsea, if they had a world class striker they might well be fighting for top 4. Having said that I have also seen them fall away in the second half which they did to a certain extent in this game but just as we have Son and Kane who can pull stuff out of hats so they have Ward Prowse and he did, twice.
Our sub par performance was just as much about Southampton's dominance as it was about our shortcomings, although our complete lack of push back in midfield was decisive.

I think you mean their second goal...the goalscorer passed the ball out wide and then ran behind Kulu into the box. Kulu made no effort to cover him at all despite actually being between him and the goal when he first passed the ball. All the defenders in the box did their jobs and Winks can hardly be criticised for not tracking a player who Kulu was nearer to at all times. Either Betancur or Son could have closed Ward-Prowse down as well.

The man only gets work cos he's good for spouting ****e.
He talks of his spurs record glowing terms stating it was:
    22 played 13 wins 3 draws 6 losses
equals a 59% and says his points average of 1.9 per game would have got us top four if he'd been there all season. If he got 1.9 pts per game over the whole season he'd have got 72 points. Arsenal finished 4th on 79 ffs. He lost to Arsenal home and away (cup) Liverpool, Chelsea, West Ham home (cup) and away and City. So to be honest it's fantasy bollocks yet no interviewers ever challenge his fiction

Oh and when you add in his 6 cup games (6 Played 1 win 1 draw 4 losses) that he ignores (cos like they mean feck all) it becomes 14 wins out of 29 games his win ratio becomes 48.25%.

And tbh his "joke" at ht a few years back about Lloris not being able to put his hand up to apologise for his mistake v Brighton (Lloris had dislocated his shoulder and had to be carried off being given oxygen) was a ****ing disgrace.
Especially as he personally knew and had managed Lloris.

Skipp and Bentancur are very good players. Need a good creative midfielder in the summer and things will look very different. The likes of Winks need to be moved on and Hojbjerg is ok for a squad player.

Yes , my mistake but I still think Winks was guilty of ball watching , a professional of his years should have the sense to be looking around him

Conte's systems don't have creative midfielders, they have pairings like
    Matic & Kante
    Brozovic & Barella
    Vidal & Marchisio

This and the fact that creative midfielders really are a dying breed these days as the box to box midfielder has replaced them as the creative fulcrum in a midfield pivot, while the main traits of a creative CM have been passed on either to DMs if a team wants somebody creating from deep (i.e. Brozovic, Tielemans, Amrabat) or AMs to get the creativity further up the pitch (i.e. Eriksen, Pellegrini)
