I've just researched the college of policing and I stand corrected, apparently introduced 5 years ago as a pilot program, but now paused to analyse the findings. But this as explained requires a hefty training program, I'd be horrified if they were then sent out to take charge of major crime scenes without being initially shadowed by more experienced officers. But please accept my apologies, did t even realise they even had such schemes now, utter madness if just after a period of training they are let loose. However I very much doubt they would be given a Detective Supt position given the intricate nature of some investigations, unless as previously mentioned, they are shadowed.
Maybe the high handed attitude you displayed in your previous post is exactly what gets the “muppets” on here pissed off?

No worries. Thanks for clearing up.
Best wishes.
Rises up the ladder are mostly time driven and my daughter is now given control of certain crimes but for at least two years she is shadowed , reported on and given feedback . So far she’s doing ok and loves the job - she is a qualified lawyer but wanted to give something back instead of paper pushing - mind you like nurses the paperwork is horrendous ! So I’m not sure of that side of is has changed much LOL

Re: Paper pushing/red tape.

Some of the references on here are caused by getting rid of 20,000 coppers in the name of Austerity then they do an about turn and tell us they are going to recruit 20,000 officers. What do you get when there is a shortage of employable people, the rules change and the Police are (rightly) required to demonstrate they are moving with the times.

This is a personal thought but I always thought you needed to employ some carefully managed nasty bastards to catch nasty bastards.

I find it amusing that someone can be 'sacked' from a job for being inept by someone who is in a job who is beyond/more inept...

As someone on TV just said, Khan has been criticised and when that happens he finds someone to pin it on.

Absolute bollocks ... you have a 2 year probationary period when entering the police, no matter were or who you are, you can't just leave a job and walk straight into a Dept Superintendent role, you may be on the advance promotion list, which allows one to climb the rankings quicker, but whomever told you this is pulling your p1sser. buddy. When promoted you have to go up the rankings chronologically.. I.e. Sgt, inspector, chief inspector, Superintendent.

The Met has always have lower standards of recruitment because of the sheer numbers they have, they have for years had more bad apples as a result. This isn't to say that other Forces have some but not in the same quantity. But for every crap or bent officer out there, there are hundreds if not thousands who do the role to their best abilities.

Makes me laugh the muppets on here who slate them but my god how quick are they to run to the police when the sh1t hits the fan.

As for those who criticise their local constabulary, you'll be surprised to learn that they ha e one of the most successful success rates when investigating major crimes, including murder.

Just have a think before you talk bullshit without knowing the facts.

Cresida Dick has paid the price for their poor recruitment, and her leadership will be remembered for the idiots and freaks that somehow managed to get into her Force, and rightly so. But don't tar all serving officers with the same brush, there are excellent male and female officers out there doing a fantastic job.

The Met cop Wayne Couzens seems to have missed some steps on his rise through the ranks before killing Sarah Everard. Not much being said about that these days.

Whether a copper not he would have done this at some time , his job like Savilles gave him the access or opportunity . The MET like the BBC were negligent with stratas of hierarchy that subordinates darent question - let’s hope that’s changed or changing

Given her well publicised failure when she was in the lower ranks, as well as the numerous other failures within that force under her and Khan's leadership, it's clear they need a root and branch overhaul of their recruitment techniques.

Please accept my apology for having the temerity to pass on the views of a serving member of H*mberside's professional standards department, and also having a view on the awful fleece/baseball cap attire that passes for a uniform. Oh and the utter guff about running to the police when you need them, is almost as old as Sir Robert Peel. That is all, mahna mahna. :emoticon-0100-smile

Is Det Sup a different rank to Sup then? (Which was the bit I didn’t understand hence asking earlier)
Or is it just the part of the Police they work in?
Cheers

Dep Supt is basically on charge of criminal operations.. supt covers most other operations simply put.. so usually a degree of criminal investigation is required for such.

My point was that he managed to move up very quick. Joined the Met in 2018 then got into close protection and firearms by 2020.
