This may have already been asked, but I've only just noticed it and it got me wondering. Why are the ribbons on the trophy black? Shouldn't they be blue with Birmingham winning it last season?

The colours of the Carling cans = Black and white.

    There's your answer.

I think the holders only have their ribbons on the trophy until the start of next season's competition. Then they are replaced with the sponsor's ribbons and Carling = black. I think it's the same with the FA Cup, I remember in 2007/08 loads of Chelsea fans were pissed off cos when the FA Cup was shown on MOTD it was decorated with E.On's red ribbons and they all thought they were Man Utd ribbons!

Ahh ok fair enough. For some reason I always thought they kept the ribbons on until it was won again. Cheers.

They probably should do. But corporate money wins out, as it does far too often in the modern game...

Doesn't the premier league keep the colours? Or am i imagining that?

I think the Premier League does, but that's probably cos the new season starts pretty much as soon as the last one ends whereas there is some break for the FA Cup and Carling Cup. Or it could just be that the PL has the power to keep the corporate sponsor in line whilst the FA are as spineless as usual...

Yeah they do. That's why I thought it was the case for the Carling Cup and FA Cup too, I just hadn't noticed until recently that it wasn't.
