So after our comfortable win against Leicester our next match we move onto our next match only to find that joy of joys we’re off to that temple of the beautiful game Turf Moor . Where the home team have signed 6ft 6in Weghorst to hopefully improve their already famed fluid quick passing game . Last season we won the corresponding fixture 3-0 and we do have a good record there overall having won 6 to 1 , PL 15-6-2 CL 6-0-0 LC 4-0-0 FAC 2-0-0
We cannot take this game for granted Burnley are bottom of the table and fighting relegation. No easy game in EPL, but it's a must win game.
Well burnley are not at the point where a draw is no good. But then again I recall teams like West bum and cardick who were all but down and went for the draw against us and got it but it actually only assured their demise. A good early goal would be nice.
Our new recruit Diaz shows a glimpse of what he can do yesterday, on paper ,we are going to be too strong for Burnley. They got a draw with Manchester United and likely going to fight for their premiership survival
drawing with man utd is less impressive than drawing with brighton (no disrespect to brighton) IMO this all comes down to two things. 1. Burnley can't score goals. 17 in 20. thee got a new giant in but it hasn't changed YET 2. Burnley are grinders. 0-0 v watford 0-0 v arsenal 1-1 v man utd 1-3 v leeds 1-3 v utd in december They are 4 points from safety with 2 matches in hand so IMO they will 100% grind here to get a draw. Probably try lump it long as the sole tactic. LFC need to score first and follow that up if they can. if we do socre first and then proceed to shut the game down and back off with one eye on midweek then they will hang on and hang on and try for a set piece or whatever. second goal kills this imo. Best way is to blitz first 30mins and have the lead and control then. heopfully we are in the mood to do that. I hope at least theres a bit of rain about as i would assume they'll have the grass not cut (if there is much growth around) and they'll not water as a 6' 6" player doesn't really need anything on the gorund.
Looking at City's fixtures, I don't see them dropping any points any time soon. All we can do is try and win our games. At least if we cement 2nd place, we can maybe focus on all the cup games.
We just need to match city’s results until we play them. Keep the gap to 6 points and beat them and suddenly it’s 3 points with 6 to play and those last few weeks always spring some surprise results across the league with the pressures of relegation etc
Norwich A Spurs H Everton A United H Palace A Brighton H Burnley A That's their fixtures before we play them. In theory Palace away prob the trickiest as they have poor record there. Rest you’d say they should be winning really.
Burnley A Norwich H Leeds H West Ham H Brighton A United H Watford H in theory we should be wining all those. 4 homes games 2 away games in next 6. Brighton away is prob trickiest given we struggle against them. No reason we can’t win all 6 and keep the pressure on city. If the gap is anymore than 6 when we play them then can’t see us winning title though
United have picked up points against them the last couple of years, so they could spring a surprise. The same applies to against us as well though.
There is a real feel good factor around the club now - strengthened our attack in Jan, world class players returning from AFCON, world class players coming from injuries and then we have a little gem like Elliot back.
Klopp confirmed henderson back so imagine will be a Hendo fab Thiago midfield for this one. Jones has done well but faded a bit yesterday. Will be really interesting to see what klopp does with midfield once all fit though. you’d prob say Hendo fab Thiago is the first choice but Elliott on that right was brilliant early season, Hendo isn’t great on the left but would be s huge call to leave him out for Elliott when fit.
We will definitely need to rotate a lot over the next month or two. Personally, Elliott has the RCM slot nailed on but he will need to be eased into again after coming back from injury. Hendo should only play RCM and in no other position - hes not good enough for 6 and he certainly can't play on the right. LCM - only Keita and Thiago can play that role. Jones is talented but it just doesnt suit him. He doesn't have the defensive awareness. RCM - Elliot, Hendo, Ox Fabinho is the only one who can play 6.
