I remember back in 2013 when we sacked Steve Bruce. We'd just lost to Wigan and them over the road were raging. I suggested the process would be something like this Monday Assess options Tuesday: Sack Bruce Wednesday; Assess options Thursday: Appoint MON and it pretty much went exactly like that How as it taken these clowns so long to identify a manager? Even now we are only "in talks" with Alex Neil? I mean really?
I might be being daft but has Keane played a game to get back at billy smart and his side kick after last time and also to strengthen his hand in his upcoming sky contract talks ♂️
Sounds like Alex Neil and McCann had had their interviews and had initial talks, in case Keane turned us down. Now he has turned us down we just have the final bits to do with the back up. It all completely follows what AThletic said earlier in week. Decision Wednesday. Appoint Thursday. Why the **** we were following that process rather than appointing the best manager - well thats where for me Speakman has to go.
Typical ****ing Sunderland. That's the playoffs ****ed now, it will take a miracle for this bloke to get what is needed out of this squad with the majority of fans on his back from day one. Lose the next game and I would hate to be in the stadium for the remainder of the season. There's a lot of anger and disappointment out there already without continuing this slump any further. This club never fails to underwhelm.
I’m reserving judgment on whether I have any blame for Keane until we hear at least one side of the story. At the moment we have neither. And whilst I trust explicitly what @Prehab26 is saying - he will only have a perspective of one side of the story as well.
The old regime always went for people who were not employed elsewhere. It seems this regime is the same.
For all we know both Manning and Edwards were approached and said no. They’re in the middle of their breakthrough seasons. Why sacrifice that to come here when a good chunk of our fans would hate them immediately? They’re both destined for championship jobs in the summer.
So Speakman has come up with Alex Neil and McCann as best options ffs. Other options could have been EMPLOYED managers that would have been more expensive too get them out of their club, but would have been better. KLD again looking for a cheap option.
I think its pretty rare for any league one club to be able to attract a currently employed manager, mid-season. Especially a league one club who are underpeforming. It’s all things that should have gone into consideration before Johnson was sacked. We’d have had a much, much better choice of manager in the summer. I do however agree with the sacking of Johnson - so its just not an ideal situation to begin with
Which employed managers that we want are leaving their clubs mid-season to come to a club where its promotion or bust?
I wouldn’t mind Neil at all. Obviously Keane was my first choice, but I’d get behind Neil all day long.
This really annoys me - why is it always managers who are out of work we look at and employ? Usually, there’s a good reason why they’re unemployed. Not just now either, but historically
You know what mate, there are two clubs, one finished 13th last year and another finished 20th, both appointed young coaches and not your run of the mill, easy to go to, failed out of work managers. Both those clubs are currently above us, then take into account the guy at Blackpool. There is a world of young up and coming managers, coaches that i wouldn't expect supporters to know. However I would expect a Sporting Director doing the correct process would be well aware of them
At least three journos now, Barnes, Wilson and Downie saying he had been offered the job last Friday when he was interviewed.
