Our last appointment was a championship level candidate who didn’t know how to win. We are mid-season and up against it. And on a hiding to nothing because we have a fan base that only want the sexiest of sexy. Defoe. Poyet. Mannone. Keane. We are desperate to be relevant again. And ignoring that in order to become relevant again we need to put the ****ing hard yards in. Not having a go at you - just getting fed up of people thinking we should be bringing in big names “because we are Sunderland” - when we are a Sunderland that keeps failing.
Their perspective is different from ours. Most of the players and managers they reference left us in the PL and joined them in the Championship so of course they will appear better to them
Same at every single club, Some players and managers are good or bad fits at different clubs at different times. The reality is though, Bruce has the same track record everywhere he's been, decent at first, then terrible and clueless. And none of those players have exatly pulled up trees in their careers. Yes, they might be in the division above etc..... but that's wrank mismanagement on our part, not because they were any good here.
Its more the **** show that the club has put on. They could have appointed McCann on the 30th Jan and be done with it. This "process" and the dance toward Keane has been an utter shambles
They then got promoted to the premier league and did ok, getting to a cup final (which they should have won)
We have tried to 'put the hard yards in'. Remember PP. We have tried the young and up-coming manager in Ross, we have tried the L1 promotion specialist (PP), and tried the play better football (LJ). None have worked. It isn't necessarily big names that people want ( we had that for years in the PL and failed), it is results and promotion.
I feel like I've been paying to get kicked in the bollocks every other weekend for the last 5 seasons
Of course he wants to come, we are or at least were the best supported club outside the premier league.
But we don’t want the guy who got exactly that in the most recent season? That’s all my point is Parkinson hadn’t been promoted for ages. Ross never had. Johnson had struggled to put winning runs together long enough to get Bristol into the play offs. McCann is different. Exciting? Hell no. But lets not just throw him in with the rest because he’s not Keane
I sincerely hope so mate. The other names mentioned only have me thinking we'll be in the same boat this time next year. There's a lot of people second guessing on here about what's gone on over the last 11 days. The Keane In brigade are blaming Speakman, while the Anti-Keane camp are blaming Keane for stalling. The terms offered in the final negotiations might not have been enough for Keane to want to risk packing in a lucrative media deal, so he turned us down or Speakman could have gone to KLD and said "It's him or me". We'll probably never know what really went on. What is clear from this episode is that the club keeps its cards much closer to it's chest these days and probably throws in a few red herrings. So much so, that even normally reliable ITK's sources were misinformed. I would also be interested to see the list of applicants that they didn't consider. With Poyet and now Keane falling by the wayside at the last minute, I hope Speakman isn't the type to turn his nose up at someone who he feels is a bigger name than him.
