A lot of this is on Conte. The two man midfield, when those two men are Winks and Hojbjerg, kills us. We can all see it, so I'm not sure what he's watching.
Conte has to look at himself as well as the team. Great manager but has poorly managed this game Nothing improved after ht and that is on the manager
The premier league should give 4th place aaay to the gibraltan league or something this season. No one deserves it
Deserved to lose that game and mistakes by lots of players and the manager. This is why 4th won’t happen for Spurs.
Too many players who aren't CL quality. If we do sneak 4th it will only be because other teams have been even worse than us, it won't be through any merit of our own.
Credit to Southampton they played very very well and even when they went behind their heads didn’t drop. I’m gutted we lost but have absolutely no complaints as the stats show how one sided the game was
Got what we deserved. Truly poor from everyone on the pitch and especially Conte. Reeked of arrogance from all concerned. They were 13th and had only won 5 games all season yet we seemed to play like we did not need to work as hard on the pitch or change formation...we never respected their players or their managers tactical knowledge. A top four team should never have these stats at home against a team in 13th place... which shows just how far away from being a top 4 team we are...painful but true.
On a more positive note, Bentancur looks like some player. Shades of Busquets about him. The sooner him and Skipp take Winks and Hojbjerg's spots, the better.
Luckily the other teams going for top 4 are just as bad, saints like tonight could easily turn United over on the weekend. Hope for a wolves win or draw tomorrow.
Too many poor individual moments compounded by strange, sub-par management. Conte is obviously a net positive but we were saying against Brighton that 343 gives away too much against sides who have good delivery and a threat in the box, and lo and behold, look what happened tonight. Giving away so much in the middle of the park just makes mistakes like the Davies one more likely to happen. And Emerson and Sanchez being all at sea for the two headers was hardly unexpected. Offensively, the WBs were as inconsistent as we’ve come to expect, and Lucas had a serious off day. These things can be mitigated if the team is setup well, but tonight it obviously wasn’t. We cannot afford to be so passive in midfield for such a long period of matches. We saw it for 20 minutes against Brighton and we saw it for most of the game tonight. Conte being so wed to a 343 here is baffling to me, considering he didn’t use it at Inter and we’ve looked much better all round on the handful of occasions he’s used 352 at Spurs. About the only positive tonight is Sonny getting a goal that might help him spark a bit, and Bentancur looking really good when he came on for 30 mins. But Conte needs to sort the shape of this team out because we simply don’t have the midfielders to play 343, either with or without the ball. It’s not working.
