The teams selected were certainly strong enough to win those games. It's the 20:20 vision that hindsight affords that people are using to knock the club
If the performances and results on the pitch were better, there wouldn't be half of the frothy mess that you speak about. People are desperate for someone to show some grasp of leadership and turn this around. That leadership is not coming from the experienced players or the Director of Football.
Reading between the lines. Pure speculation: Speakman is a bit of a **** LJ and Speakman fell out on Sunday, big time KLD and Speakman fell out on Sunday, or just after Sunday KLD knows replacing Speakman at the same time as the manager would be disastrous so has kept him on Tensions between KLD and Speakman have got even worse since, especially with the results and the lack of manager progress KLD wants Keane, Speakman doesn’t Keane has now noticed the disconnect at the top and wants them to sort that out before he joins. KLD knows that the entire club has now been build upon Speakman’s philosophy, with all Speakman’s mates in key positions. If he fires Speakman then the whole club is in disarray. KLD knows that firing Speakman NOW will result in an even bigger delay to finding a manager I reckon it ends with a caretaker coming in until the end of the season, with Speakman and that manager going at the end of the season and a new Sporting Director coming in.
Fair enough. But how many bad runs fo we need to have? The end of the season might even bring promotion via the play off lottery, though I would seriously doubt the mental strength of this team to do that. But as a DOF, this is the first proper stress test Speakman has had. We'll see what happens, but the signs are that we are spectacularly un- prepared for the circumstances we have placed ourselves in.
As I said last night and is re-enforced for me now. The club needs grown ups. Experienced football people. It “feels” like a club run by young intelligent people with good intentions. They’re lacking one or two people who know what they’re doing to bounce ideas of. Speakman would possibly have been a great appointment underneath an experienced DoF. Some senior leadership is missing. Whether that means Speakman needs to go or not is another debate. But Speakman going now would probably be more disruptive for this season than keeping him until the end of the season.
This is true, but it seems like people are hanging a lot on Keane. That's creating more pressure because we now have the "no one but Keane is good enough" sentiment flying around.
Yes. But we are now in a position where the role of a DOF should prove of great value. It does not appear to be doing so.
Aye maybe that would sort either. Definitely lacking in experience though. Manning has done well but don’t know the rest of the set up.
Wouldn't disagree, just pointing out the fact that the results often make us put other parts of the club under the microscope
Absolutely. For me, if it’s not Keane, I will be less concerned about it not being Keane than I will be about why it’s not Keane. As its clear we want him, and if its not him because the club are a shambles, thats more worrying than if McCann or Lamouchi or even f’kn Lennon are manager.
I can't see how his leaving would disrupt this season. It's all on whether he knows what he is doing about replacing the manager. It doesn't look like he does. None of the candidates are working. It should have been done by now.
I'm at position now where I actually think Warnock is the best solution, not Keane, not Lennon etc. Hes good at organising teams, has a decent record of promotion, won't be overawed by the playoffs and I'd suggest as good at motivation as Keane. It would also not break the model we have which I think we should stick with no matter what. Get him in until end of the season and gives the club time to properly evaluate what the hell they want longer term.
Would any club other than us take 10+ days to get in a manager that's currently unemployed? It's not like we're having to negotiate compo or do things on the sly. Total amateurs man. I get if it's Keane he's got TV commitments but they can't be that hard to get out of!
I can't get over the fact by all accounts he's not even been considered. Should have been one of the first names we looked at when he said he was interested. If it's not Keane then he's my number 1 choice
According to the Echo, other owners/board members are sticking there oar in.. about appointing the manager (and butys/sales?) Place is chaotic atm... No siht sherlock...
Yes absolutely just from fan gossip. I don’t know anybody thats even heard of Sunderland let alone would get info
