    I wouldn't have thought the Daily Mail was left leaning. To be honest the fact she met him was not intended to be controversial or leaning in any particular direction.

    We don't get the BBC here nor stories about Starmer in the same way you probably don't get many stories about Albernaise.

    I was doing a job for a woman a few years ago who said she had the misfortune of being in hospital as a young girl when the pervert made a visit to her ward, said his hands were wandering all over her and she was still mentally scarred by the whole episode
    I believe that he knew too much about other high profile nonces and that's why he hid in plain sight, if he was getting nicked so were they,
    they waited until he pegged it and the whole sordid **** came out.
    That ****ing hypocrite Esther Rantzen of the BBC kept her mouth shut whilst she founded the childline charity for the protection of children, no doubt getting a massive wedge in expenses for her efforts.

    Some snp councillor has tweeted that even people in the audience who laughed at the Jimmy Carr holocaust joke should be prosecuted, well that about puts the debate to bed that clown world incorporated has officially taken over the world!!.....if you watch something on t.v. that subsequently comes in for criticism you are now obliged to hand yourself in if you happened to even think of laughing.... all aboard the runaway train

    Personal letters, lunches, even spending new years eve with the Thatcher family on several occasions ;

    https://www.independent.co.uk/news/...riendship-with-margaret-thatcher-8432351.html

    Interestingly some of this has been put under lock and key for a further 40 years. Who knows what is yet to be revealed.

    It's not only Thatcher of course, he was known to be on close terms with many high ranking officials including Prince Charles. Diana thought he was a creep and Charles "liked having him around" although it's said that Saville took advantage of the "gullible" prince.

    like Stamer did with the grooming on the Rotherham report but could only keep it under lock and keep for 10 months even though they had DNA evidence

    Thatcher was warned off about giving him a knighthood and it took 7 years (83 to 90) before she got her way. The interesting angle is that to spend the time with the PM that he did, he would have been vetted by the security services. Not quite to DV standard, but pretty close. Given it was already known in BBC circles that on TOTP he was to be kept away from the young members of the audience and the strange degree of access he was given to vulnerable people (being made head of a Broadmoor taskforce, and given a bedroom and keys to the wards there for example), then some people knew what was going on but no one wanted to make it public.

    so what he was the biggest charity fundraiser out there, I see you didn't mention the BBC who knew about him but kept quiet, i wonder why

    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    In 2012 and 2013, the British Broadcasting Corporation was involved in a series of investigations, accusations and scandals related to sexual abuse committed by employees, and the reporting of allegations of abuse by others. The issue of child sexual abuse by BBC employees was publicised nationally in October 2012 as part of the Jimmy Savile sexual abuse scandal.[1] Savile was a radio DJ and TV personality who presented the programmes Top of the Pops, Jim'll Fix It and Clunk Click, and was a well known charity fundraiser. Allegations of sexual abuse by Savile and other BBC employees were reported to have taken place in a number of locations across the country, including BBC Television Centre.

    Sir Michael Lyons, former chairman of the BBC Trust, suggested that the consequences spread beyond the BBC, in particular in the license given to celebrities.[2] The former Controller of BBC Two, Jane Root, suggested that there was an overlap between casual sexism in the BBC and the activities of Savile.[3] The ensuing coverage encouraged other victims to come forward with allegations of abuse.[1] Andrew O'Hagan, writing in the London Review of Books suggested that "*****philia is an ethos and institutional disorder that's thrived in premier entertainment labyrinths."[4]

    The BBC Two programme Newsnight also broadcast, on 2 November 2012, a report containing false claims that Lord McAlpine had sexually abused children during the 1970s, as part of the North Wales child abuse scandal. It became clear that the claims were the result of mistaken identity; the BBC and the accuser both apologised, and the person concerned threatened to sue those reporting the allegations. Following criticism of his actions, the Director-General of the BBC, George Entwistle, resigned his post on 10 November 2012.

    Operation Yewtree was set up by the Metropolitan Police into sexual abuse allegations against Savile and others, and resulted in several prosecutions. The TV and radio presenter Stuart Hall was also convicted in 2013 and 2014 of sexual offences.[5] After veteran BBC entertainer Rolf Harris was convicted of 12 counts of indecent assault in 2014, the BBC rejected calls from child protective groups for an inquiry, claiming that "The convictions do not relate to the BBC."[6]
