The problem we have is that all our strikers bar Eaves need to play off someone. Eaves has done well recently but he still commits too many fouls and probably isn't a championship striker. Yet we still let Magennis go, he wasn't perfect but at least he was another option as a focal point. I get the idea behind the Walsh signing, someone who can run a game from deep but with good energy. But Walsh was garbage and he's a player both Bristol and Swansea got rid of.
Agreed. Walsh starting made perfect sense to me on paper. He said in his interview that that's his best position so it's bollocks to moan about him being played out of position. Most of us had never even heard of him two weeks ago yet now we're moaning that he's not being used right, that's laughable. Most people wanted to see some of the new players get a start today, we got it. Turns out it's still possible to lose. And lastly, this "why didn't he change it" thing. Maybe he did. Maybe he gave them instructions to handle the winger differently but it didn't help, that is possible too. It doesn't always have to be a sub or a change of formation.
Apparently he’s watched every game we have played this season, you would have expected him to have picked something up from that. It’s not like he’s coming in blind.
Walsh needs runners next to him, if we played 352 and had Honeyman deeper it’d have worked miles better.
Perhaps he said try to give him less space, but they failed amongst everything else they were trying to do. If defenders didn't leave attackers with too much space sometimes, there'd never be a goal.
The hypocrisy of some posters on this thread calling out people for having a different opinion, honestly hilarious.
What would be the point if we all agreed! Hopefully we can all agree we were ****e. Rooney has them playing some very nice football though, it was more disappointing the manner we lost for me. Played 180 minutes against Davies this season and played to his strengths for the full 180 minutes of it
The dramatic over reaction from some posters on this thread Is honestly hilarious, but not at all surprising.
I didn’t really understand why we signed Walsh tbh. I thought we signed Slater as an option in that role. Maybe it was due to the takeover taking so long and Shota not having enough time to get the targets he wanted so he got loans for whoever was available. Allahyar was the one I was most excited for when we signed him.
He's just back from a lengthy injury, not sure on either the freshness or healthiness of him. Plenty of players throughout history and particularly at our club have been brought back before being fully fit. If Slater was injured after having been sat on the bench on the weekend and not getting on, then presumably it was in training and I guess we'll hear about it soon enough. Otherwise if he's back in the squad on the weekend with no mention of anything, it's perplexing to say the least. If he was injured then Smallwood should have got the nod as the only other capable holding midfielder at the club who can play 90 (sorry Hudd). Docherty was the one who should have come out for Walsh if he was desperate to give him a start.
As a winger maybe, his defending and positioning are atrocious. He was chilling out in central midfield for their third just after HT.
His defending was brilliant in the last game and the Swansea game come off it. We didn’t pick up he was there danger man for the 70 minutes he played and that wasn’t Flemings fault he had no help
Watching games on a monitor or managing on the sidelines and seeing these players train in the flesh are entirely different things. He's brought in a couple or three new faces,he's having/decided to change things around to try and accommodate his ideas and he'll quickly learn that fans at this Club will turn on him if the defeats/poor performances continue. I'll be quite clear here in that I didn't call for McCanns' head but I accept that the new owner will do things his way,not mine or anyone elses. If Arveladze doesn't come up to expectations then I have no doubt whatsoever that Acun Illicali(mate or not) will tell him to do one and replace him without the blinking of an eyelid.
He’s just made far too many changes to playing personnel on the pitch and the formation, which simply wasn’t necessary. It’s backfired. Next.
