I bet most teams have seen the Monza Webber crash video that was taken off youtube and have analysed it to death though

    Superb article AGloria! Simply superb!

I'm pleased it's been re-ignited with some recent posts, otherwise I think I'd have missed it altogether. Your research is thorough and really well presented. I have nothing to add at this point but I am very impressed. And thanks; this thread is very informative and should remain charged up for the coming season.

    Excellent.

yeah, I'd like to see the rules on aero restricted, make the wings have simple flat planes with none of the protruberances, enough downforce to keep the car on the ground, but not much more, mid 80's levels, not justfor the racing but for the development, make them find new ways to get grip mechanically

    GP2 already exceeds this.

Whilst I sympathise with your point (Colin and Miggs), F1 has to be faster than all else to retain credibility.

I can't imagine that is how the nose will look. If it is, they've managed to create something uglier than the walrus tusked williams BMW from a few years back.

That front nose concept looks horrific! Hopefully its just Ferrari messing about, it looks like a poor photoshop! Fantastic article AG, very impressive. I was also going to pick up on Newey's comment saying that the RB8 will 'amaze' rivals. Newey doesn't strike me as the type to boast too much. I think Ferrari and Mclaren should be very, very afraid!

With Williams supposedly concentrating on the big regulation change coming up, and Lotus/Caterham/Team AirAsia reported to have KERS, and a much improved car next year (the Power Steering issues are resolved, with the solution to be carried through), it wouldn't surprise me if they make a jump forwards.

    This. <yikes>

I think the regs would allow something like that, not sure how it shape up in the crash tests though.

I agree with Cosi's point about F1 having to be the pinnacle of motorsport. I think the Pirelli tyres could help with what Colin and Miggins want as the cars can't fully exploit their downforce if the tyres don't give them the grip, which is good for entertainment, but they still allow a blistering qualifying pace which is good for the image of the sport.

I'm a bit surprised by Newey's comments, the only way the RB8 will amaze me is if it's slow.

2012 exhausts: this is the max\min exhausts where the could be located & blow. Not the diffuser, nor the beam wing:

First View 2012 Periscope Exhausts: the last 10cm of exhaust must fit into the yellow boxes pointing up 10-30 degs:

Is that weird dip halfway along the nose just a quirk of the diagram or is that what the actual regs specify?

I was wondering the same thing as Westy! Very odd, and surely not very aerodynamic.

Not 100% sure on this but I think the nose height is restricted where it goes past the tyre.
