I agree. The uncertainty is more negative. If the players have indeed met prospective managers, further delay may well play on their minds.
As already stated by others, it's a hard question but it's the most Sunderland thing ever not to have anyone lined up ready to take charge against Doncaster and Cheltenham. I've been very skeptical of Keane but as times gone on I came around to the idea. So hopefully waiting for him is the correct decision (if he's appointed)
Dealing on an individual or dressing room basis aside, what I would personally like to see is some touchline direction. I don't subscribe to the idea that once the players cross the white line, it is only down to them. Most teams especially young ones without influential captains need some urging on, correction and tactical tweaks during a match.
I don't know if it would be positive for the players as they come across weak and fragile. It would be a huge lift for us the fans but time will tell.
Spot on. Quick appointment or the right appointment. Not that I know who is right or wrong tbh! McCann, for all we dislike the thought (and I include myself in that), might turn out to be what we need!! I recently bought a new bass guitar. I did my research. There was a lovely looking bass right in front of me for less than my budget within a few days of me looking. But I shopped around. Played about a dozen before, almost 3 weeks later, making my choice and getting a beautiful one which is a dream to play. (Only analogy I could think of from my life) Getting it right is more important than doing it quickly
I just wonder whether this has tested Speakman in that previously he was more the head of recruitment and not exactly Director of Football and this is a major test as Dof. I can understand the frustration, not helped by the poor performances and the season beginning to look like falling away again.
"lined up" and "signed" are two different things I'll tell you something - if Johnson hadn't been sacked the same people would be on here slagging the club off for "accepting mediocrity" and that they'd "rather have no manager than Johnson" etc The club is damned if it does and damned if it doesn't We all know the automatics have gone for another year so it's about getting the right man to lift the club and take us into the play-offs as the form team
If they’re fragilE, how is a kick in the arse what they need? And therein lies the problem. Some of them will respond to that kick. Some will rebel against it. You need a manager who knows which players he can do what withand not just kick them up the arse!
If that's the case I feel Roy Keane would be the wrong man for the job as in my opinion he would come in and give some of the players some home truths. Of course I could be completely wrong.
I'm not saying he's not the right man for the job- he may well be- but we're beginning to reach the point where Roy Keane is being looked on as some kind of saviour, attributed powers that he might not have. Where's the proof that he's got exactly what's required? What if Grant McCann is a better motivator of the players even if he's not as exciting for the fans as Keane?
I think WE all want Keane but does Speakmann? Does KLD? Whichever manager is appointed , it's clear the club are going through a process to appoint the best candidate. We all assume Keane is the man because of what he's done previously for us and how he speaks on Sky but that doesn't necessarily mean he fits the profile. I'll be gutted if we end up with anyone else mind you
Alternatively they're soft as sh** because their confidence is shot to bits. Keane isn't just an angry shouty man. First time round he bought us the confidence we needed to get us up
I’ve said this all along mate. It’s a big reason I’m on the fence about Keane. It’s not as easy as it was when I was young. Get a bollocking and react. Most footballers did that. A gaffer has to know who reacts to these different things. If you were one of the “arm around the shoulder” types 30 years ago you wouldn’t get a game!
Agreed. HIs first team talk when we were 0-1 down at Derby was along the lines of "you're all good players, trust yourselves and the result will come"
