He isn't the greatest league one manager in the world but hes got character, personality, a presence. He instantly commands respect. Someone who'll automatically improve every players effort and performance. We need all of that. Likes of grant McCann and Neil Lennon are the exact opposite of that. Flat as the proverbial fart if likes of that get appointed.
He'll be getting awarded a contract that will be taken out of the operating budget of the club. I can't see a scenario where the "Other owners try to veto it" as they have no say in the running of the club. If at the end of the financial year there is a shortfall in capital, the ownership group will have a responsibility to provided financing to cover it. It's at that point where KLD can capitalise some of their shares and give them even less of a share of the pie (if they fail to provide their share of the shortfall)
Said on another thread I think KLD's team are desperate to succeed but don't think they really appreciated the size and passion of the club It’s irrational emotional and until you see it first hand hard to envisage. For me Speakmans interview before the game highlighted that. Hopefully the game the crowd and the reaction hit home and they get it a bit more now. We need Keane in to balance out the Data driven process with a bit of raw passion thats been missing from our game. The more I think of it hes exactly what we need.
I've got varying opinions on Speakmann's interview around the content and the timing. Part of me is thinking he wanted to try and stop the juggernaut of excitement around Keane and give some of the control back to the club. Maybe he just completely mis-read the room, or maybe he was playing games with Keane as a bargaining tool to try and suggest he's not the guaranteed successor to Johnson Whatever his reasons he has succeeded only in deflating the fanbase even further
Till he signs on the dotted line they have to have other options in place, I'm sure it's all set for him to sign but at any point he could change his mind and no, if that's happened you would hope the club would already have interviewed everyone else and decided who the no2 option was, so if Keane did change his mind the next option was just a phone call away instead of starting the whole process again
We all believe that respect comment but I don’t think it’s as easy as that. Agree I don’t want McCann or Lennon mind, I’m on the fence about Keane. Commanding respect is one thing, getting a team playing football is something completely different! No good the players respecting the manager but us still losing every week.
True I can't actually work out why he did it. Every scenario I think of he doesn't come out well completely misjudged I'm hoping its just another bit of the learning curve on their introduction to the raw passion of this club and what it means to people. One thing talking about it but they've properly experienced it now. Big couple of days for KLD and his team
I do think it’s slow going and costly but maybe that’s because there is a process for the managers to negotiate their end - especially Keane who’ll have a contract to get out of and an approval process at ours. Rightly or wrongly Keane has a reputation for being stubborn, strong minded, pig headed whatever you choose to call it and it’s hard for Speakman not to keep the options open if there is a risk of a change of mind and refusal. It’s more than feasible that he is mediating Keane and the board’s demands and if it fails he doesn’t want other managers to be ruled out and us to have no one so it’s open until it’s closed effectively.
I would agree normally but just think we need something a bit different, a kick up the arse etc. **** or bust if you like. An appointment like McCann is just a rinse and repeat appointment that we've made since Ross got sacked.
In other news I like to check on the RTG transfers thread as well but it’s turned into the thread equivalent of the wailing wall
Disagree a bit mate. I think Neil needs a break, dropping him to the bench might not be a bad idea, as it might get him a recharge. Same for Embleton. And Gooch should be dropped down a mine shaft...
