Yes, he did. Amongst many. Others. Saw him with his band Retaliation. That saw more than one trip to the bar during drum solos.

Talking of great drummers, a great has just passed away, Sam Lay. Worth reading who he appeared with and the recordings he appeared on.

This clip not only has him with Wolf but on guitar is Hubert Sumlin who nearly every rock and blues greats say was an influence.

Best drummers I’ve never seen are Stephen Morris and Ginger Baker. Stephen Morris seems a thoroughly nice bloke. Ginger Baker? Not so it would seem!

He suited the Beatles in a way a different drummer might not have, Not to mention his personality suited them.
Mick Avory, later of the Kinks, played for the Stones briefly. He is a rock drummer and their style and sound would have been a lot different than it was with the jazz orientated Charlie Watts.

The one that grabbed me off that album was this. The tone of the guitar was amazing. Blew Clapton out of the water. First time I had heard a British band do a blues number better than the original (Freddie King, a huge favourite of, and influence on, Peter Green.)

I remember reading about Charlie Watts when the stones were recording 'voodoo lounge'-'the moon is up'.Nice punchy track, great guitar riff, blues harmonica, powerful Jagger lyrics.Watts just couldn't get the sound he was looking for on his kit, went out into the stairwell with a 'trash can' and made the song what it is!!

The Clash 'straight to hell'.Beautiful drumming and Joe Strummer thumping the kick drum with a lemonade bottle.

Ginger Baker on a tribute programme to Jack Bruce after he died: “he turned round to me and said you’re playing too loud. That to me on my ****ing solo!”

Jim Capaldi's the drummer for me, if there's such a thing as a drummer's drummer I think it'd be him. There are too many great rock/blues guitarists for me to pick a favourite so I'd go for Carlos Santana because I like the Latin influence. Having said that I saw him once at the South Bank, he seemed a bit of a dick, played about 20 mins of new stuff no-one had heard before and left the rest to his band. Walking out afterwards I heard one bloke saying, 'that was rubbish, he didn't play any Santana'.:emoticon-0102-bigsm:emoticon-0102-bigsm

Watch the ‘Sparks’ film/documentary last night.
    Really good watch I thought.
Reminded me as one of their early recordings they had no drummer at all so recorded the drum track by banging on a table and hitting a bin which rattled to make a snare sound!

He was. Saw him first with Graham Bond and later with Mayall.

Saw Graham Bond Organisation. Great show. They, Alexis Corner and John Mayall had virtually ever future rock star in their lineups at one time. Later saw his Dantalian's Chariot and Collosseum. Both too pretentious, progressive stuff for me. Retreated to the bar.

Last time I saw Mayall was about 10-12 years ago here in TO. Small club packed to the rafters. Hadn't changed a bit - still kicking it out with another set of young(ish) talent. Marvellous - kept me going all these years.

Mayall should be declared a national treasure.
