Except it isn't that high is it, the true number is somewhere between 200 and 250. Still bad that 250 have died within 28 days of a positive test, but let's also remember that number is not of covid but WITHIN 28 days of testing positive.

So as far as I can see Prof Alice Roberts has gone with a high figure, not mentioned the within 28 days part, and then you have posted that on here, what's the difference between this and what people say Joe Rogan and others have done?

Maybe she tweeted a correction, I'm not bothered to check, just shows how easy it is to create fear and for people to take it as gospel and repeat to others.

534 is the official figure, along with 88,085 new cases. Your figure is clearly a guess.

This comment is truly mind boggling. As Chilco says - this tweet is a tweet of the official government data

You have dismissed it and proposed a number that is 40-50% based on…what? No data or information whatsoever. Why would that professor have tweeted a correction? What would she have changed the number to?

There is a pretty big difference between this and what *some* Rogan listeners are saying

Yeah obviously a range of 200 to 250 is a guess of sorts, see this quote from the UK health security agency to show why this tweet is clearly wrong.

"Today's data includes a backlog of recent deaths and therefore today's reported deaths are higher than would normally be the case," the UK Health Security Agency says.

She has reported a number of days deaths all grouped together and implied that was all for 1 day.

So what if this happened for a whole month and then reported as if it was 1 day? That wouldn't be right, that is twisting the truth to fit a certain agenda. She could easily have said this includes a backlog, bit failed to do that.

That is a pointless “what if” because it wouldn’t happen

The backlog of weekend reporting has always been a thing. Sunday and Monday is usually low and spikes on Tuesday

    For the whole pandemic

Sure it is misrepresenting it BUT one of the first tweet replies points out that the Tuesday number last wee was around 400. So a 20-25% increase in this “over reporting” day. I haven’t verified this

It is still the official data

    You’re scraping around now.
Wednesday Feb 2: 88,085 new cases, 534 deaths.
    Tuesday Feb 1: 112,041, 219
Monday Jan 31: No figures published.
    Sunday Jan 30: 64,850, 90
    Saturday Jan 29: 76,061, 219
    Friday Jan 28: 93,060, 279.

    And so on…

It’s almost as though they are reporting the figures when they become available, like they were official statisticians.

I see the government have plans to deal with the daily death count.
Rumour has it that, from around Easter, they are going to stop broadcasting the daily figures.
I think it’s called implementing the “if you don’t talk about it, it will all go away” strategy.

Well I hope they don't do that, but I always look them up online anyway, rather than watch them broadcast, which I urge everyone to do should they stop being announced.

Was just reading the BBC fact check article on some of the claims from Rogan / his podcast

One touted a lot by anti-vax people is that is is “gene therapy” and the vaccine alters your DNA. Now I know that is nonsense in this case. But is such a thing even possible as something that we can do as humans? Really far from my knowledge base. It’s just it might well be an even more stupid claim than it appears on the surface

Yes, gene editing is in its very early stages, but molecular tools like Crispr-Cas9 can be used to replace faulty DNA codons, where mutation has occurred.

What there is no possibility of happening is a vaccine containing fragments of mRNA getting anywhere near the nucleus of cells where the DNA is stored.

What is the intended aim of such technology? Presumably to try and cure certain diseases?

Yes, in theory you could edit someone’s immune system to fight any illness, from cancer or cystic fibrosis to viral diseases like HIV. As I say, early days yet, and there are a huge number of ethical issues to consider before it ever becomes routine. Another application has been to edit pig organs to make them suitable for transplant into humans.

As I say, in theory the only limit is how far does society want to allow such a technology to go?

Another use could be to control alter the people's DNA so they would be controlled and owned by the government.

Managed to avoid Covid until now but finally have it. Started with a sore throat Monday evening but through the night had awful sweats/shivers and a sore head. The next night was the same. Not as bad during the day bar the lethargy. Just relieved and thankfully I wasn't too bad thankfully

And here it is - exactly what I was worried about (albeit from a bad source).

Who decides what is disinformation? A lot of the facts we know now were classed as disinformation six months ago.

This is absolutely ridiculous. These sorts of powers never end well.

Next it could be "climate change disinformation" then "political disinformation" and before you know it free speech is eroded altogether

I'm interested in which facts were previously classed as disinformation?
