The sound bites out of the club will likely change now. The “calm, patient” approach Speakman has been relaying was clearly assuming a win yesterday. Being calm and patient now is actually sending entirely the wrong message to the squad about the level of underperformance
They are. So am I and have been for decades. But I always leave properly, and can always go back another time if it suits both parties. That's all Roy Keane will be doing, if indeed he is leaving at all.
Me too but there’s no denying it’s absolutely dreadful. Even yesterday, look at the numbers in the away end FFS. We’re playing against ****e but each year we’re getting closer to their level.
Will be interesting to hear how they sign off on the programme here after this game. ‘So Roy will we see you again this season??’
I'm still confident Keane will be announced. But I though Speakmans interview yesterday was very poor. Missed the mood completely. He must have been aware of the Keane speculation It was poorly thought out and dreadful timing. Personally I think he's done a good job so far but much better to have said nothing If he wants to dampen the speculation an hour before kick off wasn't great timing. Still can't work out what he was up to Interesting couple of days coming up we should know by tomorrow night if Keane is a done deal
Absolutely. With everyone fit (which admittedly rarely happens) the strength in teh squad is ridiculous GK: Hoffman, Burge, Patterson RB: Huggins, Hume CB: Bathh, Doyle, Wright, Xhemajli LB: Cirkin CM: Evans, Neil, O'Nien, Winchester, Matete CAM: Pritchard, Embleton RW: Gooch, Dajaku LW: McGeady, Clarke, Roberts CF: Stewart, Broadhead, Defoe
Martin O’Neill: Roy Keane would be 'great fit' for Sunderland Corkman Keane – who flanked O’Neill in the Ireland and Nottingham Forest jobs – is top of Kyril Louis-Dreyfus’s targets for the vacancy and held talks with Sunderland's sporting director Kristjaan Speakman on Friday. Martin O’Neill believes Roy Keane is a “great fit” for Sunderland, admitting his former assistant’s prospective return to the Black Cats is “splendid news”. Corkman Keane – who flanked O’Neill in the Ireland and Nottingham Forest jobs – is top of Kyril Louis-Dreyfus’s targets for the vacancy and held talks with their sporting director Kristjaan Speakman on Friday. Keane (50) suggested afterwards a decision was imminent by stating: “We’ll see how things take shape over the next few days” and the club’s need is pressing after they dropped to fourth in League One by losing 2-1 at home to basement side Doncaster Rovers on Saturday. O’Neill and Keane still meet regularly and the elder statesman, who turns 70 on March 1, feels the former Ireland and Manchester United captain retains respect from players. “It’s a great fit because Roy had success there before,” O’Neill told The Times about Keane, who led Sunderland to the Championship title in 2007 and kept them in the Premier League the following season. “It’s splendid news. “From my experiences working with Roy, I would really want to play for him and I would readily accept any tough times and hard words for what the praise would mean if I did something terrific to please him.” O’Neill, who says he is ready for a return to management himself, spoke of the joy the pair experienced during their Ireland reign. “Roy said qualification for the Euros and the time in France and the night against Italy (winning with an 85th-minute goal to qualify for the knockout stage) were up with anything he did as a player,” he notes. “Roy has said it too many times for me not to believe him.” Martin O’Neill: Roy Keane would be 'great fit' for Sunderland (irishexaminer.com)
I do remember him as a winger with Leicester back in the day. No idea where I got the idea he is a Mag though
Still can’t get my head around the team yesterday ffs. How can the managers have possibly thought that not playing either Roberts or Clarke, both desperate to impress, but playing an underperforming Gooch instead. Doncaster at home with 40,000 fans is literally the best opportunity we had to throw some new players in who want to attack and impress.
