I doubt we’ve got anyone coming in. We’re mid table with very little chance of promotion so decent players won’t come when they could move to a Sunderland and get a big payout for promotion and wage increases next year in the championship. A move to us now is a move to L1 for at least another season and there’s no prize money in that. Which is basically what you’re after as a pro sportsman, be it darts or formula one. Id rather KM continues to unpick the duds, misfits and plain round pegs in square holes and saves the wonga for what I imagine will be a busy summer with a better strategy of who were brining in and why. cooks plan was flawed all along (as it turned out) and he was unlucky players like coulson were never available, and others didn’t perform, like kvy. but we’ve got a lot of his players and I wonder how many we’d sign had KM had the nod on brining them in? Clearly not Edward’s, Harper, Fraser and burgess and they were amongst the biggest deals we did. All on the scrap heap. Barely even make the bench. Hardly made a start amongst them. so I’m frustrated the season is basically over but hopeful based on how we’ve performed since Km took over with these same misfiring mid table misfits cook left him and think next season must be less shambolic and a lot more efficient in how we go about aiming for promotion.
Could we be getting rid of several players to make room for someone to come in, leaving it late if so.
Disappointed to see Fraser go, clearly we didn't see the best of him but he never really played in his favour position, clearly a decent player in there. What I saw of him he was probably the best passer of the ball we had in the final third and could keep the ball under pressure. We don't really have a player now who can really attack from midfield or control the game from higher up the pitch. We have a number of forwards or wide forwards who can play the free role behind the striker/strikers but IMO they are all better when they have space to run at players therefore most would he suited to wide roles not pulling the strings in a crowded area which I believe Fraser could do. Ah well we move on, I'm just disappointed we didn't get a replacement. I'm also slightly disappointed to see Coulson go as from what I saw of him he could've been a good option at LWB, just a shame he was injured for the the majority of his time here.
Nope, thats it and unless they got their clocks wrong! Now down to KM managing and coaching the players he has. Many would envy his subs bench! Not that surprised by the clear out, apart from Fraser. Lets see what happens. I still enjoy watching Town much more.
One thing I notice is there has been no announcement about a deal for Simpson or him returning to Swindon. That one may have backfired for us and he may be off to a higher club in the summer unless we hold a gun to his head for a year.
You had a Super Bowl appearance in 2018 and you won it in 1999. Bengals haven't been in the Super Bowl since the late 80s and never won it - one of my reasons for picking them haha! I think you'll win as you've built a roster to 'win now'. It is a brilliant stadium, pretty much all the NFL ones look amazing.
As for our January transfer window, I think it's been a little underwhelming. Signing Walton on a permanent fee was a step in the right direction and hopefully resolves the lack of consistency we've at in the goalkeeper position since Bart left. The jury is out on the two lads we've brought in on loan, but hopefully Thompson nails down a starting spot at left back - arguably our glaring weakness. Bakinson should provide a bit of composure in the centre of midfield - and he looks versatile - but seems to have some character issues flagged by Pearson at Bristol City (for what that's worth). I had been hoping for a centre-back to come in, particularly as we're playing with three centre backs quite regularly under McKenna. We've cleared a lot of deadwood (Nolan, Morris, Clements, and Nsiala) with either transfers or loans. A failure to replace Nsiala may come back to bite us. I also felt Fraser and Harper could've offered more, particularly as they only arrived in the summer, but I'm prepared to trust in McKenna to know what's best for his squad and style of football.
I hope Morris can find his way back because he was a terrific prospect. The window is done now so we have what we have and our job is to get behind the boys for the rest of the season, win, lose or draw. The effort levels are clearly there so we mustn’t get on their backs if things aren’t going our way.
Absolutely right Hampy. Fans can be a fickle lot, and we must trust KM to know what he is doing, in the long term. He has cut the rather full bloated squad and now will let things settle, let him work his magic crafts and see what transpires. The only challenge will be the anxiety, loss of confidence if we start to lose games we should have won in the next batch of 4-6 matches. An outside chance of making the play-offs, but realistically, probably not. August comes round quickly, especially at my senior age, and we can all look forward to a much better start next time. It was the dreadfull start that nailed us.
Well see that’s where as a young manager he could get it wrong. His knowledge of how to play football is unquestionable and I like that he wants to focus on the football and not so much the result, but what he doesn’t have experience of is how a group of players is going to react to disappointment and keeping the energy and motivation going when results are not.
If you believe in fate, I think we can win 8 of our next 9 fixtures. However…our final game of the season is vs charlton. I wonder who will score two stunning goals in a great display of attacking midfield prowess to sink our chance of taking 6th spot…
A fit and firing Hayden coulson played well for over 30 mins in a posh win over a good qpr team. Sigh….
Thompson is 100 times the player. But you could see in his first match he was adjusting to the slow tempo, the level and the lack of quality of the players around him.
