Not really anti Emerson and agree he could end up being top class. All I said is so far he hasn't been a game changer especially going forward. And against Leicester he was awful (although apparently carrying a knock). Wasn't aware of him adding much today, wasted too many promising positions as usual. But a long way from the worst player that was Lucas.
So something weird happened in, like, the 75th minute: Brighton were coming at our back line on the edge of our area, and yet at no point did I get the "Oh no, here it comes..." feeling that I regularly got under the ubermensch or Nuno Are we allowed to get the feeling that we might see a game out?
I think the assist is a bit of a meaningless stat in the instance of kanes goal tbf...he passes to Kane who curls a 20 yard shot around the defender. Reminds me of when Jan Vertongen got an assist for sons goal against burnley for a 2 yard pass ... like that assisted Son on his 80 yard dribble I think Winks was way more progressive in his passing but ... considering I confused Romero and Emerson WTF do I know
Yeah for sure it weren’t an Eriksen-esque one but he had to be in the position to make it though, he was part of that press high up the pitch to then receive the ball from Son once he intercepted from Webster. If he didn’t press then I doubt he would have made that pass and then we don’t know if Kane would’ve gotten the ball from anyone else and hit that peach. Winks’ passing definitely weren’t progressive today in my opinion, one of the rare times he did he passed it to Hojbjerg who was on the ground lol. As CK also pointed out he was ball watching for Bissouma’s goal too, made zero attempt to close him down. That was old school Winks out there today, the one I’ve wanted to gouge my eyes out when watching and the one that’ll be out the door in the summer if he ain’t careful, he could very well be fourth choice CM in about a week or two once Skipp is back fit and Bentancur is more integrated.
I ain't claiming Winks should be a starter but think you were harsh on him but its all opinions. Think Hoejberg was poor late on but again its all opinion. I think Winks is going along a few others come the summer. I liked the look of lamptey
Romero’s stats from the game: 97% pass accuracy 5 clearances 5 ground duels won 4 tackles 3 accurate long balls 2 interceptions Apparently top for passing accuracy, clearances and recoveries. Not bad for a first game back in 3-4 months.
Harsh maybe but I’d also say fair. For me, him and Lucas were by far the poorest on the pitch until Bergwijn came on and told them to hold his beer. Yeah Lamptey’s quality, thought Bissouma was a beast for them today though and their MOTM. He bossed our midfield singlehandedly and deserved his goal. Good player in general too, think he’ll be leaving Brighton in the summer for a top six club, probably Utd.
We need to stop passing to Moura when he's facing our goal and he has a defender up his arse. The amount of times that the ball was fired at him in that position was ludicrous. I don't think we once played it in front of him in space. He had a poor game, but a lot of it was down to that. Bergwijn's cameo was appalling, especially when compared to the rest of the subs, who all did well. His body language was shocking. I hope it's a one-off and he's not stropping about the Ajax move. Bissouma's clearly a very talented player, but his future will depend on the sexual assault case. There's been virtually no information released about it, as far as I've seen. Hard to tell if it'll stick.
I don't think that Conte will want to move him on. The HG and CG aspects are part of it, but he does a job for the manager and takes instructions. He may well bring in someone better and use him as a squad player, though.
Or great start by Brighton to the second half. You have to give credit to the other team when they play well not just put it down to a poor Spurs. Overall Spurs played this game well against a team with a very good away record.
