Full time, great result! Really hope we get a home tie against non-top 6 opposition in the next round.
Final WhoScored ratings: Gilmour's best performance this season. Byram also scored 7.6, which is a huge score for a FB. Shots/OT: Wolves 9/4 Canaries 10/5
Strange match. Like a training game for the first half. Quite intense in the second. I thought the defence were really good. One thing we can surely say now is that we are competitive. All talk of us being even worse than the Derby team who got 11 points is over.
I'd also like to compliment Wolves on the way they try to play. Apart from that truly woeful dive in the penalty area by one of their players that should have got a yellow card - so obvious there was really no debate possible - they tried to play football. Such a contrast with the Watford game, where they fouled deliberately every 90 seconds to break the game up and turn it into the kind of dirty, niggly game that they specialise in.
Let’s be honest though, our time wasting was fairly egregious… But at least we are finally showing the dark arts
Yes, it was, although in theory the ref adds on time to allow for that. Watford's deliberate fouling starts from the very beginning of the match because they know the ref is less likely to give out yellows at that point, and they don't do it only in situations such as the one McLean found himself in today, but as a matter of course to break up the flow of teams who try to play football. IMO, it is a deliberate tactic. For instance, I think I'm right in saying they had the highest number of yellow cards in last year's Championship, or certainly one of the highest, despite the fact that they have footballers with higher levels of skill and therefore shouldn't have needed to foul. On a strategic level their plan sees to be to get new manager bounce three times a year in order to stay up/get promoted. Again IMO, they are everything that is wrong with the current Premier League.
