have seen on this is devon.co.uk that simon king has had his loan ended with plymouth due to his injury not having recovered on his ankle, yet another page says he's doubtful for the game tonight vs oxford????

hope he's ok and ready for action more regards the last comment!

Its a lot more complicated than fit or not. Clearly King is unlikely to return to the fitness level of 2008/9. The Plymouth loan might have shown he could reach a level of fitness equivalent to availability for, say, 40 games a season. That now looks unlikely. A third level of fitness would be to make the squad and achieve the occasional appearance which now looks the most realistic outcome. The trouble is that achieves little benefit to anyone and it might be kinder to just give him a good and deserved payoff.
We need to recognise that even if he is fit enough to play, those few appearances at the end of last season revealed that his speed and mobility have gone and those things do not come back.

Hopefully they won't be writing him off just yet.

It seems that the current injury isn't connected with the one that has caused him so many problems in the past year+, and players do get injured. According to the reports he started all 6 matches for Argyle for which he was fit, and that would suggest to me that he was getting some good playing time into his legs and lungs.

Obviously there's no point in him staying at Argyle if the current injury would keep him out until the end of the current loan, and if Gills were paying his wages then it's right that he comes back.

We probably won't know more until this injury is sorted out, but if we keep accumulating yellow and red cards at the present rate we could need another available player a bit sooner than perhaps Hessy was planning for.

Football is an unforgiving business especially at League 2 level where money is short. So what would you choose? Oli and King who have hardly ever played over the last couple of years or be able to afford Kuffour and another quality player in January?

I would keep King as long as he gets a bit better this season, he was my favourite player 2 years ago and I still respect him, but if he don't get over this he will have to go, Oli, simple, he is gone now, Nothing can change that, No impact.

from what i heard it was his other ankle so just bad luck rather than a complication with his old injury. football is a tough business but i think keeping on a good servant to the club who if he had become fit and got back to 90% of the player he was would be a real assest to the club was better than releasing him for the club with a compensation package. he's got half a season to prove his worth for another contract simple as that
