The first name on the team sheet if he could score goals?

JACK Colback knows he has to add goals to his game if he is to establish himself as a genuine Premier League force.

The 21-year-old continues to make good progress in his Sunderland career, having established himself as a fixture in the squad and a regular starter this season.

But the midfielder, guilty of a disappointing miss from seven yards at Arsenal last Sunday, knows that being able to find the back of the net is his next step.

“One thing I want to try to improve on is my goalscoring,” he said.

“I’ve scored at youth level and Reserve level in the past and at Championship level with Ipswich Town.

“Now I’ve got to do it in the Premier League with Sunderland.

“It’s a new challenge every time you move up a level but I want to do it and I need to do it because it’s such an important part of the modern game for a midfielder.

“I got a few at Ipswich but not a lot – though I was played at left-back quite a few times.”

The Tynesider scored four times for the Blues and though he is yet to break his Premier League duck, he’s pinning his hopes on it not being long now.

“I like getting forward and if I keep making the runs and getting into the box then hopefully it will come,” he said.

“Hopefully I can add that 10 or so goals to my season because I think that’s becoming pretty much essential for Premier League midfielders these days. A big thing people look at when they assess you as a player is your goalscoring because it’s too big a job to leave it purely to your strikers.

“I don’t think it’s too hard to ask you to get eight or 10 goals a season

    Good lad.

Hope he can do it, I think he's a cracking little player.

Don't think it will be too long in coming either, he seems to be getting himself into decent positions more and more recently (had 2 golden chances against Bolton if he'd just been picked up).

You can tell how badly he wants it as well, what a brilliant run that was at the weekend, all the way from defence. How many players would do that in the 92nd minute at 1-0 up?

To be honest I think Liverpool signed the wrong home grown Sunderland player. I rate this lad as better than Henderson

I like Jack but have not gone overboard on him yet, as the lad knows himself he needs to score some goals. He has had a few chances and has put himself in good positions. He does seem more defensive than attacking, although he may be under team orders? He is having a good season and is in the team on merit, so more creativity and some goals and he will be a fixture for the rest of the season.

If Colback can score 10 or so goals a season we'll be flying or he'll be playing for someone else.

Think with a few wins from the team, confidence will flow, JC will get the chances and eventually start scoring.
Worth having in the team regardless.

Wickham had a perfect chance to feed Colback to get his first goal on Saturday. He's getting in the positions, I think when one comes, he'll get a few. Good level headed lad and a great prospect for the future.

He had a good game on Satda mind.

The way he drew 2 defenders to him leaving Bendy wide open on his own really impressed me.
