Swansea City v Blackburn Rovers Competition - Sky Bet Championship Venue - Swansea.com Stadium Date - 5 February 2022 Kick off - 5:30pm Following their disappointing 0-1 home defeat to Play-Off chasing Luton Town, next up for Russell Martin’s stuttering Swans is a home match against (automatic) promotion hopefuls Blackburn Rovers. On Tuesday evening, a Harry Cornick goal lifted Luton to within three points of a Championship play-off spot as the Swans’ poor recent form - now 2 wins in 11 games - continued. Cornick finished smartly on 72 minutes as Luton were rewarded in a game where they created the better chances. The Swans had come close to opening the scoring, particularly when defender Ben Cabango was denied when his header struck the post. The win lifted Luton up to ninth, while the Swans slipped to 19th, albeit with a 12-point cushion above the drop zone. Last Saturday, Blackburn stayed in the Championship's top two despite being held by Luton Town in a drab goalless draw. Hosts Luton came closest to breaking the deadlock in the 40th minute when forward Cameron Jerome struck the post. The Hatters had earlier gone close through Kal Naismith, who dragged an effort narrowly wide after 30 minutes. Rovers created little and are now just one point clear of third-place Bournemouth, albeit having played a game more. The Swans have played Blackburn on 46 previous occasions, losing half of those matches and winning just 15. There were 8 draws. In the corresponding fixture last season, the Swans ran out comfortable 2-0 winners thanks to goals from Ben Cabango and Andre Ayew: Turning to Saturday evening, the Swans could well see the return of Jamie Paterson to the team/match day squad following his ‘contract dispute’ with the club over pay. Additionally, with Kyle Naughton injured we may see Man City loaner Finley Burns make his Swansea debut. However, the Swans will need to show a marked improvement in performance - especially creating a cutting edge in front of goal and taking their chances - to get a draw, let alone a win. I’m hopeful that the Swans can secure a point in a 1-1 draw, but expect them to lose 1-2
Thanks Taff. Well we can only improve from Tuesday. Hopefully Pato will be at least on the bench. It will be tough game but hopeful of at least a point so it's 1-1 for me.
Thanks Taff...if we play with the intensity of Tuesday night we will lose badly... We need to up the pace and shoot on sight and then perhaps we may get a positive result
We lack pace in the team, and they try and walk the ball into the net …. There was an occasion on Tuesday night, when we first broke they had 4 to 5 players between the ball and their net, by the time we were 30 yards out, they had 9 …..
I’m down for this one. Making a weekend of it as it’s the daughter’s birthday. Sadly I can’t see us taking anything from this one 3-0 Blackburn.
