its been pointed out to me that they originally said they wanted an aggressive, direct, high tempo style. Whilst LJ had us playing lovely stuff at times, could it be described as that?

Speakman also says they made significant bids on permanent centre backs but couldn't make it work, but were comfortable with where we got to in defence.

Interesting he says Jack Clarke has been signed as somebody who can play on the wing, behind the striker or the striker himself. He says people might be surprised to hear he can play striker because never played there in first team, but played there a lot in behind closed doors and U23 games they have watched

Might be a case of Johnson not achieving it consistently, if we're talking about passing it on the ground and pressing without the ball, from what I've seen that happened about a third of the time if that.

It did happen but the lack of consistency was frustrating.

Every manager, every player is a gamble. At least with this one we know we're getting someone who understands the club, the people, the passion and the sheer bloody-mindedness of the support. Also someone with something to prove.

I very seldom listen to ex pro's and pundits in interviews, they all mostly come out with the same regurgitated comments. You can read them like a book, I know what they'll come out with beforehand.

Just think what it's going to be like on Saturday if Keane has been announced and he's in the stadium, the place will bouncing, that is what Keane and Defoe will bring till the end of the season.
Whether or not you agree with his appointment you can't deny the lift around the place will be unbelievable and that can only filter through to the players and give them so much more confidence.
We have far and away the best squad in this league, the players need to realise that and hopefully Keane is the man to help them believe

I wasn't 'on the wind up' marra, I was actually vaguely reminding us that this a blinking good forum, unlike some others where abuse is a characteristic, where we can argue/have differences, but we'd still have a pint together <hug>

i always got an impression there was some kind of conflict going on for the team to go from one game to the next with a completely different style, then if you add in the constant tinkering and swapping around of players we all questioned i think that might give us a clue as to the 'footballing philosophy'... i am hoping it means the owners wanted more of the attacking and less of the tinkering, i mean, why mess with a winning combination but he did.

I’ve been against Keane coming here but having read the opinions posted on here I’ve been slowly moving towards the Keane camp. The post by slacksafc with the opinion of Norris concerning Keanes tactical ability has finally swayed me. I’m now a Keane man.

Football can change so quickly, and the feel good factor plays a huge part in performance and momentum. Keane would be far from a perfect fit but the lift he would give us could really propel us onto a great run. It’s a gamble for sure, but I’ve think we’d be foolish not to give it a go. None of the other names mentioned inspire excitement and some fill me with dread (Lennon, Warnock etc). I’ll support whoever takes over but I’d love to see Keano back.

Have you seen the interview with Kevin Kilbane? He comes across quite well in that.
