Some professions will bar people for actions in their personal life - bankruptcy if you’re an accountant for example. And bankruptcy is not even a criminal matter. By their actions they have shown themselves unsuitable to conduct themselves to their professional standards, so they have to find a new way of making a living.

So yes, innocent until proven guilty, but I would support a code of conduct that prevents anyone who has a history of violence or racism from playing professionally. Potentially every team could lose players but the message it would sent out on acceptable behaviour would be very powerful.

Maybe then these rich young men, protected in their own bubbled version of reality, will realise they are accountable for their actions just like everyone else.

Raith Rovers have just unsigned David Goodwillie after the fan reaction.

They're in discussions regarding his contract but have stipulated that he will never play with them...I suspect he'll be 'unsigned' just shortly but not too sure how that's achieved?

Will it mean a 'settlement '??

It wasn't just fan reaction either OLM,the first minister chipped in accordingly to back up her friend McDermid.

If he’s already signed on the dotted line, they’ll have to pay him off.

Does that mean he's still a Clyde player? It creates a messy situation for them all round.

I think there should be an awful lot of lessons learned from this, but somehow, I doubt they will. He needs to demonstrate he understands the consequences of his actions, and so do the clubs, as well as the Football Authorities.

I think it’s all gone a little too high profile for him to ever play anywhere again.

Herein lies the problem though I'm no expert.

Goodwillie has left Clyde and started his 'employment' with Raith Rovers? If that's the case then I assume Raith will need to agree some sort of severance.

Raith should've thought long and hard about what they were doing, when he came to Clyde there were 'mutterings' but nothing on this scale. It's very much been politicised by Sturgeon and Gordon Brown piling in and it's front page headlines up here.

I'm not sure what impact David Goodwillie had personally in terms of Community involvement in Cumbernauld but I'm fully aware that they do a lot of good things for youngsters in the area and the first team are involved in coaching etc.I know this as fact as I have a 4 year old grandson who plays over there.Clyde don't have a huge support and are a part-time outfit but they are well respected in our local community.

Does this mean they will be dancing in the streets of Raith tonight.<laugh>

Not relevant to any of this, but isn't Gordon Brown a Raith Rovers fan.

    That's exactly why it's relevant...To him anyway.

Yes, but did he get involved because he is a Raith fan or because he is outraged irrespective of that?

I suspect the 2 go hand-in-hand and Sturgeon has rowed in due to her friendship with Val Mcdermid.

Perhaps both are genuinely outraged but I'm puzzled as to why they were never 'outraged' at the SFA report into historical sexual abuse at numerous Clubs in Scotland.

It’s just obviously different when it’s your club. That’s when you’ve gotta stand up and be counted. It doesn’t matter what issues happening at other clubs you’ve got involved with or not and why would you.

Same reason people got outraged at a footballer who did not have sex with a 15 year old but were not at Jimmy Page, David Bowie, John Peel and others who did as well as with younger ones? Lack of consistency?

Perhaps it's his new choice of career. Con gullible chairman into signing him, raise a stink on social media then get paid off.

I expect if Page, Bowie and Peel (if the latter two were alive) were having sex NOW with 15 year olds, there would be outrage and arrests. Times have changed and we're holding ourselves to higher standards these days.
