Anybody is a risk at this point. Sacking LJ was a risk. It's all a ****ing risk. I don't know what KLD is thinking, but my view is we need to galvanize the squad, need to get the fans onboard, we need to get promoted. Keane is as good fit for the 1st two, and the same risk as anybody else for the last one. Presuming we do get promoted, and Keane doesn't work out long term, been in the championship means we'll attract a better calibre of manager (head coach) if needs be. The only name I can think of that would fit head coach role better, and would get us, the fans, on board would be big Sam. But that isn't going to happen, at least not while we're in this league.
From The Telegraph: “Telegraph Sport understands Sunderland have asked Keane to consider a short term deal until the end of the season with the option to extend that contract if he is happy on his return to Wearside and has managed to guide the club to promotion. Sources on Wearside have said the talks went well and Keane is receptive to the idea of coming back to the Stadium of Light but has asked for time to assess his options. As things stand nothing has been agreed and Keane must decide whether to give up his lucrative contracts with Sky Sports and ITV, where he has enjoyed huge success as a pundit, and devote himself completely to management again. Keane first heard about Sunderland’s interest on Monday and things have progressed quickly since then with talks taking place on Tuesday and Wednesday.”
I don’t necessarily see that. I think he will add some wisdom to the recruitment team, apart from his rants (significant I know) his preparation is professional and in keeping with our new set up - he likes things to be right and meticulous and obviously knows the elite environment we’re looking to create and we played some lovely football under him.
