What do you mean he's O.K? Do you know him personally? He comes across as an extremely stroppy,I'm right/your wrong type of person to me.
He's just finished a 5 year stint at the Club 800 metres from where I live.He was judged a rapist in a civil case and ordered to pay 100 k to his accuser after the Scottish legal/criminal procurator fiscal had found no case to answer.

Well, he is rightly allowed to carry on his profession, same as if he was a plumber or a banker. There must be loads of alleged rapists who have done just that in one way or another. But football's in the public eye, it's always going to cause controversy.

Goodwillie is entitled to continue his career. And football club sponsors are entitled to withdraw their money if they don’t like the background of the club’s players. Nothing to see here?

GoodWillie seems to be a complete nutcase. Convicted 3 times before for serious assault. Why would anyone want him around full stop is beyond me.

Depends how we or the courts define serous I guess Ric. On one a doorman was knocked unconscious. Real thing that stands out is he was nicked 3 years running so he sure as hell don’t learn his lesson.

Similar to when Jessica Ennis demanded her name be taken off a stand at Bramall Lane if Sheffield United re-signed Ched Evans. At that time he was still a convicted rapist but some losers who supported Evans wanted Ennis to apologise to Evans after his retrial.

Not true. The criminal case verdict was 'not proven' which is a uniquely Scottish verdict which is less definitive than 'not guilty', kind of jury saying 'we are pretty sure you did it but not quite sure enough for a guilty verdict.'

The criminal case had a pen put through it by the P.F...It never went anywhere near a court for trial.???

The Civil Court Case found him guilty and he was subsequently ordered to pay the accuser.

Yeah, sorry, you're right. I confused it with another case mentioned in the news coverage where a woman had successfully sued after a not proven verdict.

Footballers hold a very privileged position, and I would argue should be held to higher standards on issues such as this. He was found guilty in the civil courts and this was upheld during several appeals, which seems to show a lack of remorse or admittance of guilt.

It sends the wrong message if people like this get back in*, without at least doing work with youngsters to show the consequences of their actions.

It makes a mockery of any campaigns the leagues run, especially if they too offer no process for players to use their experience to educate others, especially when they're trying to raise the profile of the ladies teams.

*I accept it's not 'back' in as he's been playing for Clyde, but he seems to have done nothing to make up for his earlier actions. Simply not getting caught again is not enough in my view. I think it plays a part in future crimes and abuse by others.

The club released a statement justifying why they signed him. That enough tells you how **** a decision it was. How many clubs release statements justifying a new signing?

Their excuse is ‘he’s a proven goal-scorer, oh and we believe in rehabilitation’. First of all, rehabilitation requires an admission of guilt and wrongdoing. The numerous appeals suggest he hasn’t admitted guilt and has no remorse for his victim, so how can he be rehabilitated for something he still refuses to admit he did?

Thought I’d copy you a legal take on the David goodwillie cases and the difference in the burden of proof.

    https://www.thecourier.co.uk/fp/news/courts/2867958/goodwillie-civil-rapist/

For me, the main points are:
    - The evidence that DW and other defendent had sex with the woman Was not contested.
    - The evidence that she was very heavily intoxicated seems solid.
    - The only contested evidence seems to be whether she was in a fit state to give consent.

The court found that on the balance of probabilities, DW raped her.
DW lost an appeal against the decision (according to Wiki...)
DW has been convicted of assault 3 times.

Not sure about you, but if I was an employer of any business, I wouldn’t employ him. Irrespective of technicalities, he seems like a very unpleasant man and not someone you want around, no matter how many goals he scores.

It alarms me that there is anyone who thinks that his right to earn a living should over-ride the responsibilities of society to protect people from violent people like him by taking a stand.
Police say there has been a big increase in the level of reported rape cases involving drugging of women in pubs and night clubs in recent years and that these are notoriously difficult to prosecute.
I’ve never been convicted of assault, because I don’t hit people. I’ve never been accused of rape, because I simply don’t get myself into risky situations like that. It’s really easy to stay out of trouble, just live a decent life and don’t harm others.

I would argue anyone that has an income that is inflated due to being in the public eye, especially as a role model.

Plenty of tv presenters have found work virtually impossible for simply expressing their views in ways that people don't find acceptable.

Is there anything to show he's done any of this, beyond paying the money he was forced to through the Courts, and showing his lack of acceptance by continuing to appeal?

“Sports people definitely are seen as role models and although we do not expect them to be perfect, we know that young people seek to follow in the footsteps of such personalities.”

Clyde went on to defend the decision, which they claim was “not one that was taken lightly”.

In a statement, the club said that the opportunity would ‘enable him to make a positive contribution to the wider footballing community and society as a whole.’
