Sajid Javid's brother is a senior figure in the investigation into the Downing St parties: https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/met-police-stitch-up-claim-26102172 He was also involved in overseeing policing for covid enforcement in the capital. Has this **** ever heard of a conflict of interest? Corrupt as ****.
Okay, while I still don't think they're half as dangerous, I'm starting to find some of the discussion from anti-right wingers as ludicrously mistaken as that of the right wingers. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-60209527 "Whoopi Goldberg is facing a backlash after she said on a US talk show that the Holocaust "was not about race". She's right, because Judaism isn't a race. Half my family is Jewish. I've never considered Judaism a race. A religion, yes. An ethnicity, interestingly, yes. A race? Never. I've never been even vaguely tempted to describe my race as Jewish, or half-Jewish, nor has any of my family, nor is it a category on any racial survey I've ever seen. Ah, but 'The Nazis...believed themselves an Aryan "master race."' True. They were wrong about that. They were wrong about quite a few things. In case you didn't notice. In case that wasn't clear. Shall we now perpetuate their errors? If so, why stop there? Why not slap swastikas on our sleeves and goose step down the street?
Genuine question - what is the difference between ethnicity and race? I use them interchangeably - am I wrong?
This isn't an anti-right wing issue, more a gatekeeping about what you are and aren't allowed to say about the Holocaust - and given that The View host Joy Behar, who jumped on Goldberg, is currently on her second Jewish husband that's where it immediately looks like gatekeeping Case in point, Judaism is considered an ethnic religion, yet that in itself is somewhat questionable because there's an obvious schism in Judaism itself as on the one hand you can say that Sephardic Jews are an ethnicity as their roots are from Turkey & Syria to parts of North Africa, while on the other there's Ashkenazi Jews who are the dysphoria from Russia, Poland and the rest of Eastern Europe who are also the group who emigrated to the US - and it is telling that it is more often than not Ashkenazi Jews are those gatekeeping all Jewishness which, while on the one hand understandable as they are the dominant group by a significant margin as this map demonstrates... please log in to view this image ...considering that their background is primarily Slavic, that is where them claiming ethnicity becomes particularly troublesome considering how there is an obvious crossover between Slavic and North Germanic and East Germanic peoples, most obviously in Poland where Slavic and East Germanic peoples intermingled What Goldberg said was particularly dense, specifically the part about "two groups of white people" considering the Roma and Gypsy populations the Nazis systematically exterminated are not white people - but this comes down to the oversimplification of the Holocaust into "Nazis vs Jews" when not only were they systematically exterminating Roma and Gypsy populations, but in their zeal for Aryan "purity" they were even exterminating their own such as the disabled, those with mental health issues or homosexuals (which the Nazis considered a mental health issue - much like the UsofA did until 1973) And it does have to be said, since I'm on a roll at this point, this is something I found problematic about RE when I was at school as all it taught the class about Judaism is the Nazis exterminated them and literally nothing else (much like all we were taught about Islam is women can't touch the Koran, so guess what happened whenever the teacher left the room...) which is still better than what Buddhism, Hinduism, Sikhism got as the curriculum Unpersoned the lot of them, which I'm sure the various Hindu and Sikh pupils in my year were particularly happy to find out
She's claimed to be Jewish herself in the past, which makes the whole thing a little odd. Different people have different views on what defines someone as a Jew, so I wouldn't like to define it myself. I believe that you can be Jewish by descent or by faith, though. Comes through the mother's side, IIRC.
Personally I find the "being Jewish is not a race so the holocaust wasn't racist" pedantic in the extreme. Jewish people have historically been targeted cos of reason that have **** all to do with religion. Jewish people were and still are accused of being the cause of the worlds financial problems because "they are greedy". I see no difference in that lie to the ones about black people being "aggressive and lazy" or Asian men being child abusers and Asian women all being passive etc. Looking at the way Jewish people were portrayed in nazi propaganda is like looking at the racist propaganda used to justify slavery against black people. I'm reminded of the saying that if it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck and waddles like a duck, then it's a ****ing duck...the breed of duck matters not.
And of course, there's now plenty of Jewish pundits claiming she's not Jewish enough, which is sailing dangerously close to the"wrong type of Jews" trope which is wielded by the Gnashers of the world And yes, that does include Ben Shapiro, because if there's one person you want gatekeeping Jewishness it's somebody following the Candice Owens career path of letting the alt right say "See? We're not racialist, one of them agrees with us!"
It's possible to have two correct arguments here. On one hand since Jewish is most certainly not a race then the Holocaust I guess wasn't about race. On the other hand if the Nazis believed Jews to be a race and were exterminating them for this reason then it was most certainly about race. It doesn't matter whether they were right or wrong if it was the cornerstone of their belief. Bringing in discussion about "different groups of white people" is also not very helpful.
Whatever can be said of Thatcher, she wasn't in Europe trying to look all prime ministerial in some cynical diversion tactic to save her own job. He's a scummy **** who thinks we're all gullible
