For the record, yes I've spoken to some who are very anti-British, IRA supporters (not specifically about BJ, just in general over the years) but I've also spoken to some that love Britain and respect the Queen and others that were in the RAF during the war. I've spoken to some that don't like me because I'm British, I've spoken to some that tolerate me despite me being British and I've spoken to some that love me because I'm British.

Sounds like a Hippy commune:grin: I was in the RAF for a very very short time, but I had to get out when our local republicans found out. <yikes> Dirty I'm not having an argument with you, I don't have any loyalty to any politician Irish or British or to the Royal family. My opinions are only mine, I don't care who agrees with me or not. <ok>

Even if you were arguing with me Shako, that's what this thread is all about isn't it ?

I was merely surprised that an Irishman (with no interest in politics) appeared to be defending the worst British prime minister in history (cue Twopenneth asking for proof of that statement !). I suspect your views on him might be at odds with the majority of people in Ireland. In fact I'd like to know how the rest of the world sees him, although I think I can guess.

He's only the worst PM in history because Corbyn couldn't win an election.

We all knew what Boris Johnson was like when he became leader of the Tories, but the voters still preferred that to Labour.

I recognised what you were saying - wider and historical issues colour current views...

That’s rich coming from Keir Stammer
He says Boris is more intent on saving his own skin rather tackling subjects that matter like the cost of living and energy prices
Just remind me who was the idiot who wouldn’t give Party gate a rest and didn’t ask relevant questions about the economy over the past couple of months

In my original post I did say that Boris is responsible but my actual point was to highlight how the Civil Service seem to be immune to criticism.
Have they gone back to work yet? I don't know how true it was but I heard that, even though they were working from home, they were still receiving London allowance and they were getting a contribution towards their leccy bills.
As was said earlier, no matter who is in charge, the Civil Service run the country. What qualifications does any Minister have to run a huge Government Department? They very rarely have any management skills and even less experience in the Department they are allocated.
The Government might change every 4 years but the people running the country doesn't.
Boris will only stay until they can install someone else.

I have another question for you.
What is your opinion on the Neil Young v Joe Rogan clash on Spotify?
In case you don't know, Joe Rogan has an incredibly popular podcast that is carried by Spotify. He has a huge contract worth, supposedly $100m with the streaming service.
If you've ever listened to him (he's got 11m subscribers on YouTube) you'll know that he says what he likes, interviews who he likes and isn't worried who he might upset.
Neil Young (and now Joni Mitchell) asked for him to be removed from Spotify because he thinks Joe Rogan spreads disinformation, and have asked for their music to be taken off the service in protest.
As Joe Rogan has said, many subjects would have been taboo just a short time ago (safety of cloth masks, China Lab leak) that are now accepted so restricting subjects is subjective.

My opinion is that unless it is illegal then why should it be restricted?
I have heard the theory that people may not understand that what JR says is opinion so they should be protected from it. I absolutely don't agree. No one should be able to police what I can or cannot see or hear (unless it is illegal)

Another very important point on this is that it always seems to be the left that want content restricted, not the right.

Nick Ferrari asked Therese Coffey, the secretary of state for works and pensions, how many of her staff had gone back to their work places after working from home and she tried to avoid answering. When he said he was not going to let her get away without answering she just said I do not have the figures.

Getting an allowance towards utilities was actually a WFH tax relief thing for *anyone*, not a CS allowance. That loophole has just been closed though.

Its not about policing, its about terms of service and the bottom line - Spotify is a platform with a business model, not the law.

In other news, some common sense:
A driver who used his car to try to stop a woman being stabbed by her stalker ex-husband in west London has been released without charge.
He was arrested on suspicion of murder and later bailed after Leon McCaskre, 41, died when he was hit while killing Yasmin Chkaifi, 43, in Maida Vale.
