The Southern voiceover says it all. Probably co-written by Merson and Agbonlahor. Anyway, I didn't realise this but Lyon paid £20m or so for Bruno from Atletico Paranense (sp?) just two years ago. That's a lot of money for a Brazilian club to get and shows he must have had an awful lot of talent back then. I think/hope he's an absolute steal and the man we build the team around. Super excited to see him line up with Joelinton in midfield. So frustrating that it probably should have been Lingard as the right sided attacker instead of ****ing Fraser.
I wouldn't be surprised if Target ends the season as the best bit of transfer business. Him and Trippier could be awesome together.
I think people are somewhat underwhelmed with Targett for some reason. I'm more excited to see him in the team more from the aspect of what it could potentially mean for the players directly in front of him (ASM for example). If it means we can play higher up the pitch and not have to (with Bruno as well) rely on the likes of Shelvey/ASM having to drop back then he could very well turn out to be a very shrewd acquisition indeed. Can't wait for the next game now like !
Targett's crossing is on an entirely different level to ASM's him and Trippier on the wings I see crosses getting pinged in from deep loads.
Cause he's not an exotic name, same reason if we'd bought some big Argentinian target man with the same scoring rate as Chris Wood people would be delighted.
It's a good shout - we suddenly have actual balance, and he's a considerable upgrade on Lewis and Dummett. By miles, in fact. So, yes, it's a 7/10 given the overall context, potentially 8/10 if he has the desired impact.
I loved listening to them all on SSN last night banging on about whether it's right or wrong that we've chucked money at the problem to buy ourselves out of a relegation scrap....obvs linking it back (directly) to the fact that we have new owners. This is what boils my ****ing piss.....for two reason mainly :- 1. If Ashley was still here and all of a sudden developed some sort of "how to run a football club properly brain" and decided to give us £100m to spend nobody would be batting a ****ing eyelid at us spending it. 2. The whole point of the January transfer window is for clubs to strengthen, regardless of whether you're trying to win the league, secure a CL spot or stay in the ****ing league. We'd better get used to such nonsense cos it will no doubt become a theme in years to come.
I didn't say that! Although I do agree that Targett could surprise most, a very understated player who gets about his business and does his job.
A reasonable window and good to see the club not being taken for mugs in regards to overpaying for players but as I say that I'm reminded of Chris Wood? Seriously? For TWENTY FIVE MILLION God damn POUNDS? That's what we could come up with? So many better strikers out there. Championship Strikers. Old over the hill strikers. Loan options. Youth team players. For less. I'm still perplexed with it tbh. Not sure who let it happen or how that happened but someone really needs sacking for it. BUT on the positive side... Trippier and Bruno are targets that would have been unattainable back at the beginning of September. Target and Burns strengthen the defense, no doubt about it. Will be interesting to see how that back 4/5 shapes up now. (C+) not bad and did well to strengthen our biggest weakness (defense) although a striker worth a damn and a worldie of a CB (in addition to Burn) was needed. Also failed to shift a load of dead wood and players who can't be registered now so a tough start for the new owners hopefully a lot of lessons will be learned and looking forwards to July when the next window opens (if we stay up)
I refer you back to my screenshot of Chris from Hants on the BBC chat yesterday with his "waaaah Newcastle are spending lots and making themselves better" post. Firstly that's the ****ing point of the January transfer window, to improve mid season. Secondly has this **** been oblivious to what Chelsea have done for nearly 20 years and what Man City have done for 10+ years? Nah, it's Newcastle cheating, no fair.
Options are always going to be limited when you're in the drop zone, even with all the wealth in the world. We can throw money at it, but the simple thing is the best players wanna play in the Champions League, so we can't get the best yet. It was the same story for City too before they got into the Champions League. I'd give it a B overall, defence sorted and Bruno is a massive signing. Wood is OK, but could surprise us and do a job, but yeah not the dazzling striker we were hoping for. Couldn't shift Clarke, but we got rid of Hendrick, which is obviously a success!
I hope Wood proves me wrong but he is a stop gap for Wilson coming back. If we'd got Ekitike I'd have been a lot happier and like I say it's their first window and lots of room to improve - my disappointment for the outgoing was we had a 25 man squad (24 if you drop one of the 4 keepers - Woodman on loan is good for his development) but only managed to get Hendrick gone from the registered squad despite bringing in 5 so 3 more needed to go - Clark, Gayle and another which could have been done earlier.
I find it a bit disappointing that Wood is already getting so much stick. He’s not a “Messi” type of player but is good at what he does. Double figures for goals every season in this league in a poor team that doesn’t attack much. Pre takeover we would have been delighted to get him. He’s also a type of player who could be good alongside Wilson rather than either/or. It’s up to Eddie and his team to get the best out of him. It’s a team game and we have 4 points from 6 since he came. Forget the fee, they got him in quick which everyone demanded and these days the fee should be irrelevant to us, Ashley has gone. Get behind the lad instead of waiting for one mistake to get on his back.
We would probably have lost to Leeds if they didn't sign wood. The club was im a crisis and they've managed to bring in 4 Premier league proven players and two top internationals. One being only 24.. I think they've done very well.
Come on! Everyone can see we've overspent on a very average player. Like I say I want him to prove me wrong but all I've seen of him is missing a free header from 7 yards out thus far, apart from that he wins balls on the halfway line (he lost the ball for Watford's goal in this position). There is a very long list of strikers out there that would have been much, much better purchases than Chris Wood, for less, including the man mountain, Weghorst, Burnley replaced him with.
