Blackford may be a stodgy cake eating twat, but at least he has the balls to call out the PM for the big fat liar that the whole country know that he is. Funny how you can slag someone off for their size in the House, but you can't tell the truth. I ****ing hate politicians

    This would be hilarious....

Pillow fighting enters the professional ring

Pillow fighting has been turned into a professional combat sport as athletes competed in the ring in Florida.

The Pillow Fight Championships took place in Florida on 29 January, where 16 men and eight women fought for the two titles.

Each winner earned a title belt and $5000.

    My take on yesterday.....

Gray's report was damming and in no way a whitewash.
Starmer had his best day at PMQs.
Boris completely misjudged the mood in the chamber and had one of his worst days in front of Starmer.
Blackford pointed out what we already knew, but it was clearly a stunt as he called out Boris for breaking rules....whilst breaking rules himself.

Johnson simply has to go imo, but I'm not sure who can replace him.

Oh and May, who is getting a lot of praise, lied her arse off concerning Brexit.
She was so terrible that she really should keep her head down and shuffle away.

If I was a Tory MP I would wait for the police investigation to conclude and the full Gray report is out before making a decision. I'd find it immensely frustrating that the police are drawing this thing out. It's really doing no one any good including the whole country as a whole - how is a limping PM regarded by leaders outside the UK, especially Putin? - except perhaps Boris who wants people to forget parties. We need all the facts.

It's pretty obvious what has happened. Boris has important strengths in communications and viewing a big picture, but he has always been hopeless on detail and discipline, including personal discipline. As Mayor of London he relied heavily on those around him. But those around him now, especially Carrie, have not been good news. When Boris won his 80 odd seat majority against a useless opponent in Corbyn, Carrie and others convinced him that he was invincible and could make his own rules. If you look at a lot of Boris's unforced errors like wallpaper, decorations, cakes, parties, Carrie was behind it. She was the catalyst to getting rid of Cummings who then became a dangerous opponent with knowledge of all the dead bodies. A spouse can be a strength or a weakness to a politician - I'm afraid Carrie (whose care and concern for animals I admire) has been the latter.

If Boris goes, and I think he will once the police have concluded their work, I'd look at an outsider, Tom Tugendhat, to replace him. He is the antithesis of Boris and the two don't get on. As ex military, he's disciplined. He's bright (his father was a judge), takes a keen interest in foreign affairs and seems to have good judgement. He or Sunak for me.

    I really like Tugendhat.

Which means he has no chance, of course..

Yes, probably right. I guess the first choice for Tory Party members will be Liz Truss. But outsiders do sometimes get through e.g. John Major and David Cameron.

Do outsiders sometimes get through, or often get through?

2016 - May, only half contested
2005 - Cameron an outsider (as you say)
    2003 - Howard, no contest
2001 - IDS, arguably not an outsider, but also not the clear frontrunner, which was Portillo
1997 - Hague, ditto IDS, the great Ken Clarke was early frontrunner I think
1990 - Major an outsider (as you say)
1975 - Thatcher, most certainly an outsider

I'd say that 2019 was an exception when the clear front runner from the outset came out as the winner when there was an actual contest. And look how that has gone!

One of the reasons I used to like the Tory Party so much was its ability to pick decent leaders that weren't expected to win, avoiding the trap of surface level populism.

I'd love Hunt to give it another go. If he does I'll probably canvass for him.

Tugendhat is as likeable as a Tory can be. I bet he doesn’t even shag kids.

however, anyone who has looked the other way through the last two years and then decides this is the straw that breaks the camel’s back can get in the bin.

You're right, Thatcher was an outsider as well because everyone expected the incumbent leader, Heath, who had sought the contest to bolster his position, to win easily. Your list really does go to show that it's a fool's game to try to predict a Tory leadership battle. And this time round, there would be a large number of viable candidates on the face of it.

Personally, I can't see Hunt or any Remainer that has not declared outright that they have converted to Brexit, being selected by the Tory faithful.

Yeah, I do agree on both points. Hunt / Tugendhat will both claim to be pro-Brexit now, as Hunt did in '19, but it won't fool anyone. I'd be shocked if they don't go with a 'true' Brexiteer. Wouldn't make any prediction beyond that really.
