This is thoroughly depressing Woopert's!!! As far as I can see it is the structure of the squad consisting of loanees and contracted journeyman players who are cast-offs from other clubs. This contrasts with Cook's bold signings of Lowe and his mate. I have said it before and I will say it again the recruitment of players is a disaster. We should be targetting young players in the London area who play for non-League teams a well as making better use of players from the "academy" as the Portsmouth area is not totally devoid of footballing talent. We see Mount, Oxo-Chamberlain, Chaplin, Pearce, Webster, Ward to name but a few who have links to the area or who came throught the ranks but were not really given a chance to develop.

I remember Jim Smith had to make use of the rich resources that Alan |Ball unearthed in the early 90s. So, I think my criticisms are fair.

Yellow card for Chuks Aneke for (a) hitting Louis Thompson in the face, and (b) barging deliberately into the referee !! Should have been a red.

Final whistle. 1-2 to Charlton. We deserved an equaliser for our vastly improved play late in the second half.

They committed 14 fouls to our 5, and had 5 bookings (including their manager Johnnie Jackson) to our 1. I rest my case.......

But what about the first 70 minutes? Too late really! Chartton do seem to have a habit of winning at FP!! As for their bookings how many of them were absolutely pointless? Stupidity reigns in the Chartton ranks as well.

Great attendance from both sets of fans. The club are yet again letting the fans down badly, losing consecutivo Home matches like this. At the moment there appears no overall strategy tiwards lmproving the playing structure with the policy of receuiting cast- offs. I would have been happier signing no oñe than this O'Brien! Come back Marquis!!

Thanks for the commentary again Woops. The game was shown over here on pay TV which gave me the opportunity to watch the game without knowing the result. (On ifollow you cannot view the replay without seeing the result when you log in).
I agree with much of what Ides has said. This result makes the chances of the featuring in the play-offs very remote - let alone triumphing in the play-offs.
So from now it is all about building for next season -and how do you do that with 4-5 loanees in the side??
Looking at the recruitment in the window one has to be under impressed. Carter has played quite well but I am not convinced he is an improvement on Freeman. The fact that he is younger and has more scope for improvement is somewhat irrelevant with loanees.
Walker has a nice touch on the ball but has not got sufficiently involved in the last three games. The same comments with regard to the age and potential of loanees as made above about Carter apply to Walker.
Hume had a very reasonable debut and as a permanent signing has potential. It is difficult to discuss the LB position though without reflecting on Ogilve and Brown. Much was made of the weakness in this position but I could not see it. My understanding was that Ogilvie played as both a defensive back and a wingback for Gillingham. He has never been tried as a wingback with Pompey. He did very well indeed as a central defender in Robertson's absence and Brown covered the absence of Ogilvie from his natural position adequately.. I also thought perhaps Robertson's return was a little premature (although I rate Robertson highly). But having been replaced in the central defense I feel strongly Ogilvie should have been given 'first bite of the cherry' at wing back.
It is difficult to see how we are progrssing positively.
    Never-the-less PUP

Portsmouth midfielder Shaun Williams is set to go to hospital after suffering a back injury during the 2-1 defeat to Charlton Athletic.

The 35-year-old former Millwall player was forced off in the back end of Pompey’s loss to Charlton at Fratton Park after suffering a nasty back injury following a collision with teammate Clark Robertson.

Williams left the ground in a wheelchair and accompanied by members of the St John’s Ambulance crew, with the midfielder now expected to undergo scans at hospital.
