According to WLS we couldn't iron out a deal with Swansea for Paterson. So I guess we've given up on it. Guess Warburton wanted back up for Willock and Chair which I get especially if we are going to play with 2 No 10's. We're light there and at CB with only 4 qualified players for 3 positions and with Dickie only 2 more yellows off a 2 game suspension already.
I wonder if we will go back with a last minute deal. I think Bournemouth may have run out if money after their huge splurge.
Number 10 is a really tricky position. A good one won’t be happy sitting on the bench, as ‘back up’. We’ve done moderately well playing with just Willock for the last few games…….. Ball can fill in at CB if push comes to shove. You can’t stuff a 25 man squad with quality back ups. They don’t exist, and if they did they wouldn’t want to be back ups.
Why waste 750K on a player we don't need. He will not start. Austin, Gray and Dykes continue to get the all important goals, and we have been without Chair for 4 weeks. Clearly Patterson thinks he is worth more than Swansea so not a player I want around, when we have built a great team bond. Let the rest do some desperate signings. It won't work for Bournemouth as they are not playing for Parker
Bournemouth must be looking at Fulham and thinking ‘oh great, we could have had Silva…..and we got a Thunderbirds puppet’
Expect Paterson would have got games. 750K doesn't sound a lot but this and the loaning out of Jordi suggests we really must have hit our Budget limits. Fingers crossed for few injuries and stop picking up yellow cards, especially for unnecessary tackles.
Why would he have got games? He’s not as good as Chair, and he’s not in the same league as Willock. Unless you played him as the one up front.
I suspect that Warbs may continue with the one 10 for a while, leaving Chair on the bench. I also wonder whether Chair's injury is a little more serious than we realise. Even if both Chair and Willock play, one of them could be the second striker, allowing us to keep 3 in midfield.
He wouldn't have played, just an upgrade on Thomas from the bench. Our remit for the remaining games, which was the same as Warnock, very strong defensively improved by bringing in Sanderson and Marshall tick. Defensive midfield tick. Creative player tick tick. A striker who will score very important goals to win a game tick tick tick.
I dont know much about him but his stats were about as good as Willock and Chairs early season when he was playing. He'd get game(s) in the Cup and when Warburton and his sports science advisors tell him Willock and/or Chair need a rest. Its 2 games a week again after this week so they'll no doubt be better off with days off. Or of course with injuries. The positive for me was Amos Saturday- he looked back to form and able to play a 10 role if a different sort. If we'd brought in Paterson we could probably have loaned out Thomas too to reduce the cost hit.
This is Bournemouth's way of doing things.... Should add that's to play 18 league games and possibly 3 play off matches...... £83k per game
