If they've sacked a manager because he was reticent about signing a 39 year old who's only played 17 times in the last few years and who doesn't really fit the profile, then I've lost a respect for the new owners. I honestly don't think they'll have sacked him for that reason though.
I don't think he was sacked for that... He may have been sacked because of last seasons catastrophic end to the season and the collapse pre Christmas When, he should have initially walked. I believe that the owner saw that the glimmers of another collapse again at Wycombe, then the portsmouth result , then Lincoln and finally the destruction on Saturday by a team 17th in the league against a team 3rd top wanting promotion....That the final straw.
There is no way the Defoe discussions will have had any baring on the sacking, unless during the process he managed to insult KLD and Speakman etc His departure will be purely down to multiple bad results, inconsistency and technical mistakes despite having a very good squad.
Combination of factors I reckon - we aren't on a good run. 8 wins from 22 in all competitions including 4 humiliating defeats. 52 goals conceded in 39 games, player unrest and worry over future form. The 6-0 was probably the final straw
Media with their collective cocks firmly in their hands for Newcastle now. We're now the forgotten club in the Northeast. Good.
Just think, if we had won on Saturday we would be top. Had LJ played a back 3 it may have been oh so different. Such a fine margin. FWIW I have no idea who would be a good manager for us right now. Maybe someone from the championship who is doing very well at a ‘small’ club.
We are one of only two clubs in the North East. The other is aiming for a spot in the play offs in The Championship.
