Big Sam also wouldn't be as bad as some people are making out. Hear me out. We have a good attacking squad for League One. The problem is defence. If we keep clean sheets we will win 99% of games with these attackers. Big Sam might be famed for long ball. But in reality he's built his teams around defending well and being direct. He's always then used a biggish striker who can hold the ball up, with tricky players around him who can feed off his scraps. Think Okocha, Djorkaeff, Khazri If he could come in and solidify the defence, and focus on us getting the ball up to Stewart (who has octopus inspector gadget legs) who can in turn hold the ball up and get it quickly to Pritchard, Clarke, Roberts, Embleton etc to do their magic. It could work. Now whether he'd come to us is another question. I'd also expect he'd hate working under Speakman.
Big 14 hours for the recruitment team ahead. We arrive at the last day with some glaring gaps. The need for a defensive midfielder that is mobile is staring them in the face. Likewise an alternative / backup to Stewart. Depending on whether you think Hume is for the now, or the future (the latter in my view) we need a right back. We are only another injury to Cirkin away from trouble that side as well. All in all the midfielder and forwards are minimum requirements for me. I hope they are players with hardened experience as well, it is clear we need a few more leaders on the pitch as too many of our players look passive when we are in a scrap.
I wouldn’t want him and McKays near the transfer kitty but I agree with all you’ve said and as a forward thinking innovative club manager he would also enjoy working with our set up.
He might do it if we give him a 6 month contract until the summer with a potential to review. He doesnt need any transfers as it would already be sorted. He'd want a rather large bag of cash though.
Defoe done and announced soon, apparently. @Prehab26 can you confirm? edit - sorry mate, didn’t see your last post!
Some customer in our place says Defoe has signed. Some legal type, smirked & left. Thought he was taking the pi$$ but . . .
