Whoever comes in we need certain players to step up, the likes of Neil and Embleton go missing too often ...

... yes Gooch runs into blind alleys, and makes mistakes, but that's because he's always running and wanting the ball.

No idea why Winchester was so bad at Bolton either, couldn't even manage the basics. But it's more likely the tactics to blame, these players aren't clever enough to keep adapting.

That can be done in the job advert and shortlisting process, make sure it is clear what’s wanted and what the minimum qualifications are. That could exclude many of the big names though so might need to be more flexible than we currently are to get the right person in. In all honesty the current setup hasn’t achieved the goal anyway so maybe it could do with further tweaks?

  4. Agree with this. I hope they've been prepared for something like this and have got in mind exactly who they want. It's probable that they would have given LJ till the end of the season, but,as @Prehab26 and others have mentioned, things have obviously deteriorated quite quickly behind the scenes, culminating in the players downing tools on Saturday. I hope whoever comes in carries on the philosophy which we're trying to build and isn't an attempt at a quick fix. With plenty of matches to go,and a good enough squad as we get our injuries back, under the right coach promotion is still very achievable. Hopefully today will bring in a strong defensive midfielder and some kind of striker.LJ departing shouldn't upset any potential player moves we have lined up. The coach is a crucial appointment now.....get it right and we have everything to play for...get it wrong and we're doomed to yet another season in this ****ing awful league and to losing some of our better players in the summer.

    Fair call.

sadly with todays modern footballers the chest puffing is a thing of the past. Fergie ruled Man U with an iron fist but nowadays i don't think he'd last a season as footballers seem to think that they're bigger than the club.

What we need is a manager who's able to coax these precious egos into performing for the club, the fans and themselves. I think European is the way forward as football has moved on from the dinosaur brigade.

  7. I think the players just gave up mate. They can do the basics....we've seen it often enough....they looked like they were mentally worn out.

Hettonlass over the road has said we're going to appoint a manager who's even more hated. Don't know whether the poster is ITK or a WUM

Not one of them managed the basics on Sat. Just one of those days. As soon as I saw Hoffmann ping the ball over Winchester's head in the 5th minute I knew we were in for a tough day

I doubt anyone has any inside info at this early stage. He/She will be one of the countless wind up merchants over there

In the Beehive I said to the lads 'keeper error today'.

The wind was really swirling and we needed to play the game in their half, not our own.

I think the defensive midfielder might be as crucial to our promotion chances as the coach, perhaps more so in some ways.

Dortmund II to English clubs is becoming a well-trodden path these days so I've been having a look at Enrico Maassen, the current holder of that role. He'd be a good fit in some ways but I'm not sure the players we've brought in recently would be suited to his preferred set up.
