Agreed, Este, but I fear Australia has missed the boat on this one.. Should have been done years ago.

Yes but years ago we had rich influential people wanting to sell their coal, so we built coal power stations instead

We do use them but a lot of them, having been built some time ago, are now nearing their end of life so the debate is what to use next. Personally I would go for nuclear stations the main thing against them is time. Planning, permitting and building means they probably wouldn't be available for at least another 10-15 years. We've had an absolute dearth of energy policy, stretching back at least 20-30 years which means investment in new generation has stalled and we are having to plug gaps. We even have one of Elon Musks mega battery banks to store electricity for use in periods of high demand.

And we had unemployed, bearded, sandal wearing hippies who thought nuclear was dangerous and we'd all be truned into green zombies. They won!

I watched a program on TV some time ago. They were discussing the merits of Nuclear Power and the subject of building nuclear reactors came up, of course. One of the participants said that it was too late now for Australia to build such a power plant, it would take too long and be too expensive to ever be a viable option. I guess he was right?

Given the right framework they could be financially viable. Yes, they are more expensive to build than a similar sized (MW) coal station but..... as they tend to be easier to keep going than turn off using them in a pumped hydro scheme would make sense, using them to produce hydrogen at night time could work. Having them in different states but interconnected could alleviate local peak demands, as these peaks occur at different times of day etc etc. The big issue that scares Australians but not French people apparently is waste storage. We have a large geologically stable continent without many people in some remote areas, that's probably a very un-PC thing to say but true.

Drinking from a plastic bottle and then throwing it at the opposition must count as a reduction in single use plastic ;)

    He is a psychologist <doh>
The sheep have been wearing face nappies and hiding under their beds for two years because they've been listening to the behavioural psychologists at SAGE who's computer 'evidence' has been completely wrong from day one.
