Because Joe Rogan is a dipshit with zero expertise. If you doubt that, ask Joe Rogan, who frequently walks back the things he says by reminding people that he's a dipshit with zero expertise. Here he is, walking back previous anti-vax information by saying, and this is a quote, ""I'm not a doctor, I'm a ****ing moron". https://www.axios.com/joe-rogan-wal...ify-4ab56dcf-b60e-41c6-9c49-fe7f22be7d04.html
May I ask, how many rogan podcasts have you listened to? Or are you just jumping on the media bandwagon
See I find it interesting because I’ve listened to a fair few rogan podcasts, and all he really does is sit back and ask questions. The hate for him right now I find pretty strange. It seems like people hate him for having some people on who have dissenting views, and asking them some questions. What makes him a bell end in your eyes?
You are *mostly* right about how Joe Rogan *used* to behave. Since covid and most notably since getting it himself His stance was that of many macho guys in the US - I am in shape, I exercise, I am under 60 (or some cut off age) - therefore the effects are minimal to me (Another example is a guy called Alan Roberts who is primarily an “anti-fat activist”/“anti body positivity movement” guy whose bluntness i mostly respect) That was Rogan’s position which is fine. Until he GOT covid. Then he freaked out and panicked. He even made a video where his quoted as saying “we threw the kitchen sink at it”. He tried about 7 different expensive medications because he didn’t get the vaccine including some far more experimental and untested than the vaccine itself He was rightly lambasted because that response is completely and utterly hypocritical to his earlier claims. Claims that his followers used to justify not getting vaccinated. Most of them can’t spend thousands of dollars on a cocktail of therapies if they get covid What is more (i presume due to the criticism) when he got better he started doubling down on all his positions as well as all the treatments. Despite having no idea which, if any, actually worked. Or whether he would have recovered just as effectively if he had taken absolutely nothing at all other than paracetamol and ibuprofen than most of us schmucks are limited to So it was all hypocritical and disingenuous. Which isn’t how he used to operate at all. He very much used to sit back and let people talk. Often even to “tell on themselves” (not quite to the extent of Louis Theroux but not far off). He played this reassuring idiot that would give everyone a platform But it seems now he is much more restrictive about who he brings on because his audience has skewed in one direction. There are lots of people who have grifted off of people who don’t believe the covid response is appropriate/don’t agree with the vaccine etc An example is he had Bill Burr on a lot. A straight talking old school style comedian who was allowed to say what he really thought even more so than in his shows. But he basically called Joe an idiot for his stance on covid. Covid is another Brexit type issue - especially in America. It has become so so politicised that it is now divisive * A little more on Joe Rogan - as mentioned, he has always been very good at getting people to open up in interviews and in bringing people on who either aren’t interviewed properly on “traditional” media or who are railroaded For example I am sure he has people on to talk about the Carnivore Diet and actually discuss it. I have seen another clip from a a US show that I think is called “Ask the Doctors” where they ostensibly are asking about this - but they place the guy lower than them (literally as most are up on a panel) and scream at him for the segment about how is qualifications aren’t sufficient (which weirdly is what Rogan is on record doing at times “when did you do your phd?”). They completely ambush this guy, try to make him look stupid and then refuse his requests for a one on one podcast interview where they can’t set the battleground and set him up. Joe Rogan doesn’t do this. Or at least didn’t used to But he still has his quirks. For example I am into fitness and know that he sells shockingly overpriced kettlebells in unusual shapes. As a result when he talks about fitness he bangs on and on about kettlebells as if they are the golden ticket to training, you almost don’t need anything else etc. Which is utter nonsense - but he is shilling his junk products
"Shilling his junk". How the English language changes! Not being critical, guessed what it meant, but had to check.
Minor edit made - wrote that out not long after waking and missed the issue (and unfortunate implication). Also shouldn’t have split the paragraph from the context
Opinion piece on Rogan. https://www.theguardian.com/comment...ive-spotify-joe-rogan-culture-wars-frontline?
So how is it that over 2,000 people a week are dying of Omicron? I just don't see your logic at all I'm afraid. Official daily death figures for this year so far from the ONS: Jan 1 154 Jan 2 73 Jan 3 42 Jan 4 48 Jan 5 343 Jan 6 231 Jan 7 229 Jan 8 313 Jan 9 96 Jan 10 77 Jan 11 379 Jan 12 398 Jan 13 335 Jan 14 270 Jan 15 287 Jan 16 91 Jan 17 85 Jan 18 438 Jan 19 359 Jan 20 330 Jan 21 288 Jan 22 297 Jan 23 73 Jan 24 57 Jan 25 439 Jan 26 346 Jan 27 338 Jan 28 277 Jan 29 296 When did we last have a flu epidemic with figures like that?
Just listened to the rogan episode. I think trying to cancel Rogan’s right to free speech is much worse than anything that was said on there. People are allowed to have conversations, especially with doctors who worked on the mRNA vaccine itself.
I don’t think he should be cancelled either. I still think he is a hypocrite though and is veering away from what made his podcast good in the first place
And given that the odds are that he will be absolutely fine it will mean he can just use this to back his positions up afterwards
His interview with Dr Robert Malone was removed from youtube and Malone was banned from twitter. Should misinformation be allowed to stand and be identified as such or taken down? He also hosted Alex Jones, the Proud Boys co-founder Gavin McInnes and the Alt right Milo Yiannopoulos. Below from https://www.politifact.com/article/2022/jan/06/who-robert-malone-joe-rogans-guest-was-vaccine-sci/ "Dr Robert Malone was banned from Twitter for violating the platform's COVID-19 misinformation policies. Soon after, YouTube removed videos of a controversial interview he did with Spotify podcast host Joe Rogan, according to reports. Leaning on his early contributions to research around the mRNA vaccine technology now used in the COVID-19 vaccines, Malone has billed himself as the “inventor” of mRNA vaccines. In reality, the development of the vaccines and the technology they rely on involved countless scientists and several other breakthroughs. Malone has promoted several false and misleading claims about the COVID-19 vaccines and pandemic. His claim of being the mRNA vaccine inventor and his ability to speak fluidly in scientific terms has given him great appeal to anti-vaccine audiences."
I don’t think YouTube should be censoring this information though. I don’t see why big tech get to be the arbiter of truth. Dr. Malone did actually work in the vaccine industry and he is entitled to his opinions
Being removed from YouTube is not necessarily an indication that something is wrong. In this case it seems to be but that is not in itself proof of anything at all I expect part of why he was on in the first place is due to being banned I’d lean towards just being labelled as misinformation and kept unless outwardly promoting violence. And I mean calls to violence not a “JK Rowlings words are literal violence against trans people” kind of way. I mean the actual definition I don’t know what the other people you mention have to do with this. Some people gain a more powerful following from being forced underground. Interview them and they can be made to look like fools. I’m not sure many people watching/listening to those you mentioned on the non-covid side of things will be converted by an appearance on Rogan. Indeed they might have chance to look stupid and put more people off For example, by all accounts, the latest Jordan Peterson episode is a bit of a mess (admittedly I only saw it summarised as such by left leaning sources). Where as his earlier ones revealed him to be absolutely nothing like the alt right lunatic places like the guardian were trying to paint him as (talking about pre-covid times). Sometimes give people enough rope…(again I mentioned Louis Theroux earlier who is a more sophisticated and talented Rogan) Caveat: haven’t listened to the latest Rogan and Peterson episode and so there is every chance it is being misrepresented by his/their critics
