Well according to this, he scored the opener in 4 games to certainly open the wins (which i would assume is the most important goal). One of them including 3 points at Villa and one to go through to the next round in the FA cup
Why? He wasn't thought good enough to start against any decent team but did well against teams that our reserves beat easily. That simply uses up a space that could have been used to develop a player like Markanday or Roles or get Dele back in favour which might have created longer term value.
It’s also funny how we didn’t have as many “easy wins” this season in the Europa Conference League without him… Vincius more than served his purpose as Kane’s understudy and if anything we could’ve/ should’ve utilised him a lot more. He’s been missed this season.
I feel like you’ve been overly harsh on him. None of us would say he’s as good as Kane but he didn’t let anyone down when he was called upon. I don’t think Dele or any youngster would have done as well as he did.
You mean the same dele who had 24 games (so plenty of game time) got 2 goals (so more useless than vinicius) who if anything is eroding his value
The same Dele that started up front this season against Morecambe and got subbed off? Dele’s ship has long since sailed and it’s telling no one so far wants him. Vinicius likely bags a brace against Morecambe too.
That's exactly my point... a poor striker keeps more talented forwards out of the side. Origi doesn't play at Liverpool unless everyone is out. Despite scoring in the CL final he isn't valuable to them and neither would he be to us. Vinicius is definitely worse than him so what possible long term value can he have.
Do you not realise how absolutely bonkers that sounds? The man secured a 6th CL title for a football club. Not only would that win have netted Liverpool a ton in prize money but he etched his name in their history books forever.
is he really worse than him? And if anything vinicius is exactly the striker you want, comes on scores goals when you need him and is happy to be kanes understudy as no one decent in their right mind would come to your club to be a understudy (not what i believe but is the consensus with the levy defenders)
Origi has scored important goals in key games for Liverpool and is undoubtedly valuable to them precisely because he does that despite not getting a lot of game time as a starter. To play as a striker you need certain attributes aside from simply being a good finisher. Generally a combination of strength, movement and technical ability to attract and beat defenders as well as bring others into the game. The systems most teams play demand that space to be created. I get that young players need game time to appreciate in value but none of those players have the attributes to make a difference as a striker. Let alone Dele, who doesn’t even seem to have the knack for finishing chances anymore, which is the basic requisite if a player who wants to be deployed as a 9 has nothing else.
To quote my favourite friend PowerSpurs i will take the numerous medal winning coaches who have decided that alli isn't a striker based on seeing them close up everyday
Lloris may have, too. Probably not though, eh? Alli's played 9 games at a striker in his entire career, scoring twice and getting one assist. Those numbers are significantly worse than Vinicius' during his time with us.
Dele stopped giving a toss a while back whilst still getting paid a fortune. Poor advert to young players
anyway, can i get a retraction that none of vinicius goals were important and were only when the team was steamrolling the other team has it would appear 4 of them were the openers. Whether it was against meaningful opposition (the one prem match at the very least) is debatable
But they won it with him, and partly because of him. If he doesn’t score that 87th minute second goal, for as awful as we were that game, we could’ve had a long punt up the pitch in the 90th minute and undeservedly grabbed an equaliser to have taken it to extra time, then who knows. He finished us off and killed any small glimmer of hope we may have had. That goal to them was worth far, far more than the £10m they paid for him.
it's not like spurs had come back from behind in the champions league before, especially since they walked the semi final in the previous round
