I'll go as far as saying there are some mouth-watering maidens from Yarmouth tomorrow, and I'd like to discuss one or two in particular on the thread here.

    Noble Mission (Galileo-Kind) (2.30 Yarmouth)

Frankel's full brother is finally out. That said, he is NOT the second coming, and that has to be made clear, so beware if you are getting involved at silly prices.

    From http://www.sportinglife.com/racing/...E=racing/11/10/24/RACING_Mission.html&BID=464

"Teddy Grimthorpe is not expecting any fireworks from Noble Mission when he makes his highly anticipated racecourse debut at Yarmouth on Tuesday.

Sir Henry Cecil's juvenile is a full-brother to his brilliant unbeaten stable companion Frankel, currently the highest rated Flat horse in the world.

Grimthorpe, racing manager to owner Khalid Abdullah, has warned punters that while the youngster has pleased connections at home, they do not believe he has the same level of ability as his sibling.

"We're very pleased with him and we hope he can run decently, but he's not going to be Frankel," said Grimthorpe.

"He has done everything nicely at home but it is slightly bad luck for the horse who his brother is.

"He is straightforward and we look forward to seeing him make his debut."

Noble Mission is set to face 15 rivals in division one of the British Stallion Studs Supporting British Racing EBF Maiden Stakes, a race won by Abdullah's hugely talented colt Sea Moon 12 months ago and Noble Mission's three-parts brother Bullet Train in 2009.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here's a little sneak peak of him i=on the gallops:

Henry says in the video that he has a bit more distance in him and he is 'not as sharp' as Frankel. I suspect we'll see a lot of him over 10f+ next season.

    Fraser's Hill (Selkirk - Shemriyna) (2.30 Yarmouth)

300,000 gns purchase trained by Roger Varian, half brother to Group 2 winner Shimraan. Derby entrant and given Varians performance with his 2 Y Os this season, he might show up prominently.

Probably the most interesting pedigree for me on paper tomorrow however comes in the second maiden, at 3.00:

SUN CENTRAL (Galileo- Bordighera) (3.00 Yarmouth)

By Galileo out of the dam of GEORGE WASHINGTON, I think this horse will be a fair bit of a character, and not devoid of ability. Whether he will be ready to go on debut is another question, as I remember another closely related George Washington colt (Lordofthehouse, perhaps?) being a little bit of a customer as a 2 Y 0 but has since won back to back handicaps at 3. This is exactly the sort of pedigree I'd be wanting to create though if I was in the breeding game and it looks like we might get a decent price in excess of 8/1 on this one, so I might have an e/w play.

The other horse in that race who interests me is RUBAN (Dubawi-Piece Unique), related to some very smart types including a placed US Grade 1 type. Al Zarooni is flying and Frankie is on board, choosing this over the other Godolphin runner. I expect a bold showing.

Good luck, and have a good day.

    -Top.

    ‎4.50 Catterick

    Kathlatino 20/1

Going to take a chance on Micky Hammond's 4 year old maiden who has been plummeting down the weights on the back of a series of poor runs. She made an impressive debut at 100/1 after breaking free and sprinting for ages before being caught before building on that promise when finishing an unlucky neck 2nd to Law To Himself who ironically broke free before winning that contest. Kathlatino put another few moderately decent efforts in maidens before going completely off the boil when switched to handicaps last July. Initially assigned a mark of 69, her mark has dramatically fallen owing to her truly awful displays over trips varying from 9f to 12f. However, she caught my eye LTO when she travelled very well for large portions of the race and was never asked for maximum effort as she finished under a hands and heels ride to finish 7.25L behind the winner back in 6th off a mark of 52 over 12f at Thirsk. It was definitely a step back in the right direction and hopefully a turning point in her career.

The form of her last flat race is pretty good also. The 2nd Jeu De Vivre won impressively off the same mark on her next start and the 3rd Gems finished a length 2nd off the same mark as well. Furthermore, the 8th Aegean Destiny won by 2.25L on his subsequent start off a 2lb lower mark and the 9th Miss Ferney won in very impressive fashion by 3L off a 3lb lower mark also. It certainly demonstrates that on her last run and runs as a 3 year old that Kathlatino certainly isn't a hopeless case. Tomorrow she races off a lowly mark of 50 and drops back into a Class 6 race after competing in a Class 5 event. She's had a recent spin over hurdles so she should be spot on fitness wise. The trip and ground conditions should be ideal and I found it interesting that she was heavily backed on September 7th when I had backed her before she was pulled. Not big stakes but definitely worth a play in my opinion

I'm also quite interested by the debut of Colour Squadron in the last at Chepstow in the Bumper.

I think it "interesting" that they are starting Noble Mission off over a mile ................. isn't that something you would normally do with a 2YO from solid 12F breeding?

The opener at Chepstow is interesting for a number of reasons, not least because it sees an expensive Graham Wylie purchase from the flat making his debut for Paul Nicholls. Prospect Wells won the G3 Prix Greffulhe for Andre Fabre before finishing runner up to Montmartre in the Grand Prix de Paris in 2008. Moved to HoJo in 2010 and won a listed race on debut before being tried in the big staying handicaps and coming up short. I am really interested to see what Paul Nicholls can do with this one, because I always felt HoJo underachieved with the expensive ammunition he was given by Graham Wylie.

Division 2 of the race sees Grandioso running for the same connections and this bumper winner, who wasn't disgraced in the Aintree Champion Bumper, could provide a quick double for Nicholls.

All in all a decent looking card at Chepstow, including the bumper where that horse named after Sir Chuckles goes again ;)

I appreciate that Zen but given what they have subsequently found out about him it just seems strange that they start his full brother over a mile. Mind you, I'm sure Sir Henry has already forgotten more than I'll ever know about horse racing <ok>

I see what you mean. I think that Sir Henry likes to tackle a slightly longer trip rather than pitch them into a shorter maiden. If you start running them in shorter races then they can get keen when you step them up in trip because they are used to the faster pace. The fact that Frankel is such a free sort that obviously makes sense, but apparently his brother is a lot less manic so not sure why. Perhaps he looks more of a 10f horse already . . .

Take what Hughes said about Canford Cliffs as an example. He had to completely re-learn how to race because the mile and a 6f maiden are so different.

Good point, and at least they will get an early indication of where they stand with him, stamina-wise. I think Frankel's maiden was difficult to read as it was such heavy ground, although of course he did beat the subsequent King George winner !!

    Cyc:

The event was established in 1969, and it was originally called the Wetherby Pattern Chase. It replaced the Emblem Handicap Chase, a handicap named after Emblem, the winner of the Grand National in 1863.

The race became known as the Charlie Hall Memorial Wetherby Pattern Chase in 1978, in memory of the trainer Charlie Hall. This was shortened to the present title in 1990.

The Charlie Hall Chase has been sponsored by Bet365 since 2003.

Morning, troops. Hope everyone is well.

I'm sure most of us will be watching the debut of Noble Mission keenly but I agree that there are in actual fact quite a few potential nice 'uns debuting at Great Yarmouth this afternoon. Deffo a fixture to watch together with the old notebook, methinks.

No bets for me at the meet though nor in fact on the level at Catterick Bridge but there is an interesting one over the big 'uns at Chepstow:

Alfie Spinner (3.40 Chepstow) - the last time this one ran I fancied him to win at the old Cheltenham Festival. However, it was not to be as he trailed home an 'also ran' in the Pertemps Final. Was useful over timber though being a dual winner and was rated as highly as 138. Looks to be just the type that Nick Williams can improve on now he's put over fences and can take this beginners chase this afternoon. Long term could be an extremely decent staying chaser.

As Oddy says that horse that the Pipe’s have named after me also runs in the ‘lucky last’ at the fixture.

Talking off Chepstow, by the way, it was great to see my old fave Tataniano return to form there at the weekend. Off a huge perch of 160 he did it with ease and thankfully looks to be back on his 'A game' this term. Going to be interesting, after this ultra impressive run over 2 miles, to see if connections stick to this trip or revert to the original plan of stepping him up to 20 furlongs+.

Cecil thinks Noble Mission will stay further as he doesn't have Frankel's sharpness or speed <ok> Looks more of a 3 Y O and will be put away for next year after this run. If he does have ability he is more likely to be a Derby horse than Guineas IMO.

Usually if you see a horse in a 1m maiden at the back end of the season, they do get upped in trip as a 3YO. I think NM will be more like Bullet Train than Frankel. Fascinating to watch though.

With regards to SUN CENTRAL, it is worth noting that none of his siblings to race (George Washington, Grandera, Old Hundred, Wyeth, Ampelio, Fifty Five, Nexus and Lordofthehouse) won on debut.

There is definitely temperament in the family: George Washington and Grandera both had well documented mean/stubborn streaks, and several of the others have shown similar signs.

Absolutely! I think this is why I love the family though, they are some of racings best characters. I am excited because I always wondered what effect Galileo might have if breeding with a dam of top class temperemental types. What a great shame George Washington did not make it as a long-term stud.

I would love to see his family have another big success.

Noble Mission 3/1 now, perhaps a more sensible price.

Cant guarantee it but think Noble Mission will be a 90+ horse at best... and all talk of guineas / derby are futile at this moment in time. But who knows what he will be like on the track.

One that I think is worth a go is Qaadira from John Gosden ridden by the majestic Richard Hills (No I didn't keep a straight face writing that <laugh> ) Anyway Qaadira (Mr Greeley - Makderah) can get involved today at a tasty price of 12/1.

Anyone know price of Izzy Top in 2:20 Saint Cloud ?

Noble Mission is no Frankel, according to someone who knows, supposedly backward, has the talent to win a backend maiden but should be closer to 15/2 than 5/2.

Flaxen Flare is one of Balding best 2yo's, eyecatching debut 2 weeks ago and he will be fancied to win today.

Johnny Murtagh has announced he will be limiting his riding in Britain, especially in the build-up to big races / meetings. Just doesn't want to risk getting a ban.
