Frankly the Diaz and Kulu approaches feel like it. I’m sure I’m oversimplifying but I just don’t understand. Conte clearly isn’t happy about his RWB, CM options and wants another player who can play as a striker. None of us were in his transfer meeting but it’s clear from his comments to the press and his lineups that these are his pain points. Why aren’t we addressing them? Another gem from Paul too If I didn’t laugh, I’d cry
As i said above, by all accounts it is thanks to Paratici we didn't replace Nuno with a Steve Bruce level manager and if the analogy of a blind man throwing darts was a recent phenomenon that started last summer, I'd be more inclined to join in the criticism. As it is, we've been blindly throwing darts for the past 8 windows. So I am more inclined to criticise the one constant throughout that period, which is Levy.
There were loads to be fair, you can even punch in "Conte Traore" on Twitter and you'll see the amount of links from media/ journalists that have said along the lines of him being a priority signing and/ or requested specifically by the manager. I don't think so to be honest, I don't think the first legit big money bid of the window we made would've been something out of the blue/ opportunistic. Would've been planned as they would've needed to get Levy's approval and he would've likely gritted his teeth at offering that. Squad's a mess and we don't seem to be working hard enough to do much about it... meanwhile they'll constantly email us asking to buy merchandise and upcoming tickets or events. We're doing our bit, as is Conte, about time they done theirs.
Worth noting that Bentacur is on the market as Villa are negotiating, but it looks like Juve want a straight sale. Could be a mover for us too.
Unfortunately it boils down to the one in one out policy. We currently have heavy interest in multiple wide attackers. Clarke has gone, Ajax want Bergwijn and various Spanish clubs want Gil on loan. Selling the former and loaning out the latter makes sense but would leave us very light in that position. Meanwhile it is proving impossible to shift the likes of Dele, Lo Celso, Doherty and Ndombele, which means there isn't much wriggle room to add at CM or RWB. The one that does baffle me is ST though. Moronic.
Technically no-one. Wasn't on our original list and we only appointed Paratici after our Plan A (bring back Poch) failed. His first choice managers were: Conte, Fonseca, Gattuso. So Nuno was his 4th choice and 5th or 6th on the overall list (or 7th, if you count Nagelsmann and ten Hag). We took Nuno because by that point the only alternative was appointing David Pleat as caretaker. Paratici walked into an absolute freak show of a managerial search that began when we kept Maureen on for 2 months too long then sacked him on the eve of a cup final a fortnight after Julian Nagelsmann agreed to go to Bayern. He can hardly be blamed for walking into that mess.
IF no new players arrive then we will waste a great chance of 4th spot. personally, I can see Conte walking out if that happens and the atmosphere in the he ground will make the end of the Man Utd game look friendly. The panic being talked about imho stems from this. And this situation all stems from last year when we waited nearly 3 months to sack JM when everyone knew it had all imploded, then waited 10 weeks to employ the wrong manager and failed to get rid of vastly under performing players. None of this is hindsight as all these things were being pointed out at the time. Tuesday could well see a **** storm erupt and tbh it will be a surprise to no one. Imho it's sad to see Levy let his good work unravel but it is only him that is to blame.
Earlier today you posted about Liverpool's 5 forwards. Any one of those would strengthen Spurs but none is a striker like Harry Kane. We need better players not average players because they happen to be strikers.
I agree but if Kane gets injured then having someone to step in is better than nobody. Last season for example, you had Carlos Vinicius who isn’t as good as Kane but did ok when needed
He left out Origi, who they're apparently willing to let go. Out of contract in the summer, but injured at the moment, so that might stop any move. They also have Minamino, who must be looking for a transfer now.
Yeah those two aren’t really in his plans so I didn’t include them. But Liverpool signing Diaz before getting rid of anyone else shows good intent imo.
It’s one thing missing out on Diaz, missing Arambat would be criminal. Shifting the deadwood is seemingly even more of an issue than it’s ever been.
Sorry for the Fab spam but apparently OL want Gio. Just get him moving and give Conte a player he wants. Shouldn’t even be a hard sell for the player as he’s desperate to retain his Argentina place and has seemingly few admirers at Spurs these days.
Proof you don’t have to be the greatest player to provide a decent option. Origi would struggle to start for a lot of top half Prem sides yet has some absolutely massive goals for Pool, one that we unfortunately were at the hands of.
If Toon are buying Lyon’s midfielder for circa €40m and they now want Lo Celso as his replacement on loan, I hope there’s an obligation clause in that if certain appearances are met. Let him go for £15m-£20m and everyone’s happy, especially us.
