I always wondered what happened to C3-P0 You seem to think that we exist as a player trading organisation, focusing solely on P&L
Oh I agree with that but for some reason that rarely happens. I think Modric and Gunter are some of the players we agreed deals for outside of a window that then joined on the first registration day. That’s obviously the most logical and ideal way to go about business but leaving it late/ 25 days into a window is almost certainly the worst possible way, which we almost always do.
I think nothing of the sort. We are the only team other than Man City and Chelsea who have substantially improved our league performance over the last 20 years. Each of Liverpool, Man Utd and Arsenal have got worse despite spending more than us. Our football performance is a definite success.
This is my point the timing of our actions stinks of a lack of intent imho that is what I can’t help but notice
Not quite. I would rather the club suffer 10 Willian sagas early on in a transfer window, than one Diaz in the final week. The former is solely pinned on the character of the player, the latter can be pinned on the club (to whatever degree) .
Controversial opinion. Can't blame Levy or the club for this one. I think we have to accept a few things. Tottenham aren't in the CL, plus most of the clubs "above" Spurs in the PL "traditional rankings" do not want to see the club progress too far. Man United are looking to loan Van Der Beek to Crystal Palace, such a loan to Spurs would be out of the question as we are "rivals". Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool often sell significant players to each other in order to help maintain the "balance" of the league. We saw how clubs closed ranks to make sure, as best they could, that Tottenham didn't win the league when we had the chance recently - anyone but us. They all became Leicester fans. Liverpool were always going to block the Diaz move, apparently their interest was known but they planned to make the move in the summer. Porto basically used us to move their action forwards. They openly said that there may better options from other teams. (We could have had him doing a bloody medical and still lost the player, as Mourinho proved.) (Notice also how none of the other 'top' teams tried it. It's almost like they have an actual gentlemen's agreement to not disturb each others plans too much.) We stole a march on the 'top' teams when we obtained Walker, Rose, Bale etc. as they were all focussed on the best foreign players, we got the best local ones. Then we got a very good coach in Pochettino and added Trippier and Dele to that formula. The England squad was looking very Tottenham like at one point. They didn't like it. I think we need to do similar again. Not necessarily strictly with local players, but with those slightly under the radar of the bigger clubs. They can't buy them all. We already have arguably the best coach we could get. As much as I'd like to see it, we're probably too late for Lamptey, he's a Man U fan and they'd probably leap into action like Liverpool did if we sniffed too hard in that direction. It wouldn't surprise me even slightly. We should be all over the likes of Olise and Djed, and similar foreign players at that level. Players who might be teachable enough to follow Conte's instructions who aren't quite glory hunters yet. Riskier options. Amrabat is an almost perfect signing in that regard, provided he can do a job of course. He sounds grateful to be considered by Tottenham. Until then, or until we are in the CL, we will always be quite vulnerable to such shenanigans. No one likes us, we don't care.
This response has nothing to do with my post though. The gripe isn’t about missing out on Diaz, it’s the leaving it late in the window that is.
It certainly brings in to question if Levy even wanted to buy anyone. He must of known Liverpool would of matched the bid. Its again a case of saying I tried.
I meant to also add that doing the deal even later in the window may have actually made it harder for Liverpool to leap in. Doing it earlier in the window would just have given them more time to do exactly what they did.
Doing it late in the window would’ve ended how it’s practically always ended for Spurs - failure to meet the fee or wages or complete the deal in time due to “unforeseen circumstances”. Doing it earlier in the window would’ve given us 25+ days to go for an alternative if Pool had gazumped us early on. It’s awful planning, as per, and we’re gonna be scrapping around like flies on **** trying to see what likely b-tech solution we can now get our hands on.
Apparently another reason why PSG are now stalling on fatty is concerns over his mentality and state of mind. What an absolute virus this **** has been on the football club. Wouldn’t be surprised if we get stuck with him.
I agree wholeheartedly with this approach; the question is whether it would satisfy a manager like Conte?
The same ones as you. Liverpool have their first upward trend for decades and we have our first downward one. Given that Liverpool have had more cash to spend in every year than we have it's more of a surprise on how few years they have done better.
I imagine that any alternatives are well known by Paratici. Whether Conte wants them, or they represent such a statement signing, is another question. I don't think it's anti-semitism. I see it as more pro traditionalism, if such a thing exists. Somehow there are clubs that are considered 'big' and they want the big clubs to stay in position. Watch how they are about to fawn over Newcastle on their new rise to glory. Traditional club. I'm not sure why or how Tottenham are not spoken about in these terms. Kane being Tottenham helps a lot, they hate that , in the same way that Shearer being a Newcastle local boy helps. Neville plays a similar role for Man U. Who do we have of any profile that didn't F-off to Man U or Chelsea? If King or Hoddle had won the league a few times with us it'd be different, perhaps. What do I know?
