I think part of the problem is a totally unsettled back four. Injuries have been bad. To be fair to De Gea he has improved with every game though goodness knows what yesterday will do to the lad. CM is a problem but we need Cleverly back. It is no coincidence that Utd overhauled City in the Community Shield plus played some great football with Tom being present. It is also no coincidence we destroyed Arsenal 8-2 with him playing as well as thumping Bolton away (though he got injured in that one). Get Tom back and young Paul Pogba into the 1st team for some experience and watch our midfield improve.
Agreed on Pogba, the lad looks like he could be immense.. perhaps that is why fergie has been reluctant to splash the cash on centre mid knowing pogba is coming through.. The few times i have seen him he very much reminded me of Viera. if he turns out to be as good as him we will have a great midfield with him and cleverly.
Exactly. Add into that equation Phil Jones who can do a very good job in CM and Anderson who to his credit has begun to shine in quite a number of games, and the Utd CM problem doesn't look as bad as some make out. Yes I would prefer a new CM, possibly even 2. One who can attack and score goals and one who likes to sit and put his foot in. Get those together with the lads we have discussed and our midfield is in good condition.
But the issue for me is the chopping an changing at the moment.. we have decent players who are not getting a run in the side.. I just want a settled side... I thought phil jones looked lost against liverpool playing in midfield..
Perhaps but he also is just 19 and in my opinion SAF rested him to prevent burn out. We do have a changing side and that is one of the main reasons for the defeat. Once the injured players return then we will become more settled.
Agree completely on the couple of points being made here, that we need a settled CD partnership and a decent central midfielder. Evans is fifth choice centre half at best and Ferdinand is now fourth choice, I haven’t the foggiest as to why they were partnered yesterday? Jones and Vidic have to now be put in as the pair and stuck with, Smalling can continue as RB and be first choice cover. Ferdinand has had it and Evans is not good enough to be a Manchester United player. As for centre mid, are we now completely reliant on a lad who last season was on loan at Wigan? Bit sad that don't you think? Anderson is like Evans, not good enough to play for United, Fletcher is a very able reserve CM and that is all and Fergie clearly no longer trusts Carrick and so Carrick will know this and play in an even more nervous way than he already does. So we need a new CM, probably two, just like we did last season and just like we did in the summer and will continue to do so until we get one. I’m also disgusted with the way they threw in the towel. Not nearly good enough.
I think you're being a bit hard on Cleverly there. He is a very good young player who was doing well when in the team and more importantly we were scoring goals for fun. I never rated Anderson much at all but this season he was doing quite well. I'm going to continue to give him the benefit of the doubt........for the moment.
I'm not being hard on Cleverly at all, that's not what I meant. What I meant is the cupboard is dry. I rate him, I just don't think we should have to rely on him, we should have more/better cover. I won't give Anderson the benefit until the fat **** loses some weight!!! Untill then I will always be suspicious of his attitude.
I agree he has a part to play but if we turn to him and Cleverly then we will have to accept that the likes of City and Barca will have our number for a few years to come as those two, whilst having a bright future, don't have the experience and know how we need. I think we need to buy some of that experience. Sneijder or Schweinsteiger would give it to us.
Would love to see either one of those in a United shirt... Though I would like to see Pogba get given more opportunities in prem games..
I'd have signed Milner at the time. I think yesterday proved what he can do. Barry and De Jong the can keep but Toure, Silva and Milner I'd have in a shot.
We've been riding on good fortune in the midfield area for a couple of years. We don't dominate midfields like we used to and I can't believe Ferguson hasn't spent 30 million to bring in a world class player in what is surely the most vital part of the pitch. Battles are won there - it's a ****ing no-brainer. Wellbeck? I don't think so. Ditto Anderson, Evans, Carrick and Fletcher. The jury's our on Cleverley as far as I'm concerned. Has he REALLY done that much, or are United fans grasping at straws? I rather think it's the latter. He may well turn out to be world class, but he ain't at the minute and world class is what we need. It grates on me that those undeserving vermin have been bailed out of the obscurity they deserve, but there we are. We can only help ourselves and not worry about anyone else. Yesterday was ****ing diabolical. Even with 10 men it was pathetic.
I think Cleverley has a future but it's as I said to you yesterday, we CAN NOT rely on him. He was drafted back into the squad from a loan period and now he's our saviour!?! Same for Welbeck, give them a break Fergie for ****'s sake, neither should have that pressure on them. Hernandez or Berbatov should have partnered Rooney yesterday and against Liverpool with Welbeck a sub. Vidic and Jones have to form a partnership, for their sake as well as the rightly bemused goalkeeper behind them. It's possible Jones could make a tidy CM as he's got the drive, build and ability but we need that in defence as Evans has none of those attributes and Rio is a busted flush. Shame, but it is now patently obvious. He's been patched up for the last two seasons and now it's coming home to roost.
I have a confession..... In view of talksport having nothing else to talk about other than the sundays game I found myself listening to Oasis this morning... <hangs head in shame>
What, you changed channel and they were on so you carried on listening or you chose to put an Oasis CD on? There is a big difference there as to whether you'll be forgiven. Have you got a Kindle? I know Foo has one so this is directed at him really as I seem to remember him rating them highly. I'm going to get her one for Christmas so would like the run down if possible?
Dont leave me tunny... life would be so mundane... I am also tempted to download noel gallaghers solo album...... <grabs coat an runs out the door>
