Downing Street has admitted that staff gathered inside No 10 to celebrate Boris Johnson's birthday when the first Covid lockdown was still in place.

ITV News reports up to 30 people attended the June 2020 event, sang Happy Birthday and were served cake.

Apparantly Johnson didnt know it was a party nor infact his birthday!

The Pentagon says US troops are on standby to deploy to Europe, should Russia invade Ukraine (file picture)
Some 8,500 combat-ready US troops are on high alert to deploy at short notice amid rising tension over Ukraine, the Pentagon says.

The news comes with Russia denying it plans military action against Ukraine, despite massing 100,000 troops nearby.

President Biden is scheduled to hold a call with European allies as Western powers focus on a common strategy in the face of Russian aggression.

The Pentagon said no decision had yet been made on whether to deploy troops.

It would only happen if the Nato military alliance decides to activate a rapid-reaction force, "or if other situations develop" around the Russian troop build-up, said Pentagon press secretary John Kirby.

There are no plans to deploy to Ukraine itself, he added.

"It's proving how seriously the US takes its commitment to Nato," Mr Kirby said.

Some Nato members, including Denmark, Spain, Bulgaria and the Netherlands, are already sending fighter jets and warships to eastern Europe to bolster defences in the region.

Over the weekend, some 90 tonnes of US "lethal aid" including ammunition for "front-line defenders" arrived in Ukraine.

As well as President Biden, Monday's video call will include UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Italy's Prime Minister Mario Draghi, Polish President Andrzej Duda and Nato chief Jens Stoltenberg.

EU leaders Ursula von der Leyen and Charles Michel will also dial in.

Why oh why does the world have mad people in charge of their countries?!
To start a war in this day and age is quite unbelievable really. Makes me glad i decided not to have anymore children to be honest. Wouldnt want them to grow up in this current world!

Whatever the scale of the fraud they should all be charged

We’ve always been clear fraud is unacceptable and are taking action against those abusing the system, with 150,000 ineligible claims blocked, £500 million recovered last year and the HMRC tax protection taskforce is expected to recover an additional £1 billion of taxpayers’ money.”

Agree, the fraudsters should all be tracked down irrespective of cost. A government cannot "write off" criminal behaviour.

Only having briefly read the article is he actually saying it’s those in government, ie ministers and the like who are committing the fraud or is he saying that those in government are so useless that they allow the fraud to take place ? If it’s the former then surely he needs to name names or come up with evidence….and if it’s the latter it’s nothing we didn’t know already. The government is quite obviously inept and even people like Ellers have given up trying to defend them
And as for the waster on benefits with big tellies……total ****s who give nothing back to society but instead take, take, take.

All of those contract will have to be examined in the independent Covid Inquiry by the judge, Heather Hallett.
