Yeah the Heskey bit was harsh I know but a home draw to Norwich followed by a skin full of Guinness is an adequate excuse <ok>

Sir Alex calls on referees to protect that cheating Ronaldo and he's a manupilative whiskey nose, up to his usual despicable tricks.

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2007/aug/17/newsstory.sport20

Doglish calls on the referees to protect St.Suarez and he's a stand up bloke and all round Paragon of honest intentions, it all being Sir Alex's fault.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/15419170.stm

The ones crying the loudest about poor widdle Suarez were probably the first ones on the 606 united board slating Ronaldo when Sir alex said the same thing.

Of course how could you think otherwise...getting rarer these days though especially in town.

I think Saturdays result was exacerbated by the fact that last time I watched us play Norwich Jeremy Goss broke my heart on the last game standing on The Kop <wah> (Was a ****ing screamer of a goal to be fair but we were bollox that game). I got twatted on Guinness that night as well <whistle> then a whole bunch of us ended up getting a carry out and sitting on St Georges Hall steps bemoaning the end of an era until about 5 in the morning and I obviously still haven't got over that whole experience <laugh>

That's like a list of my fave boozers <whistle> all good yeah but it used to be a standard requirement in the vast majority of Liverpool boozers to serve at least a half decent pint but now its a select few. The Vines served a top pint for a while and The Grapes on Mathew St our regular haunts before jumpin the Sheil Rd Circular up to the game (with the obligatory few in one or each of The Albert, Flatty or Cabbage Hall obviously) <ok> happy days.

(oh and I was only 17 at the time of that game you cheeky **** <laugh>)

Now then Billy that's not nice! <laugh>

Anyone notice that the banter thread has been empty all night. What's the use of having a thread where you can take the piss if the intended targets have all pissed-off. Bit like their defence - gone AWOL <laugh>

Yeah I checked it out before but didn't see much point talking to the tumbleweeds....although I suppose they'd have been more intelligent and articulate than most of the manks <ok>

SAF has done exactly what he set out to achieve. He's influenced the refs, pundits and now our own fans...

He hasn't influenced me mate. I watch him do it every week and it gets on my tits. Plus I can't really abide some people who'll slate other teams players week in week out for being divers and cheats but won't accept that players in a Red shirt are capable of it as well. Just my opinion but trust me when I say I wasn't the only one in the ground on Saturday who's of this opinion. Have we all been "influenced by MAF"? No because we've been saying it for a year.
The lad needs to do himself a favour and shake off this reputation sharpish as it's not just him it's affecting it's the whole team. The less we get from referees the worse it is for us surely that makes sense right?

Yes, we've all seen it but was it a big issue before Fergie mentioned it?

Also, I don't think Suarez is a diver. Yes, he will exaggerate the fouls but there is always some contact.

I remember seeing Downing clearly dive as he tried to get past Evra which really annoyed me and I found it disgusting.

Show me a link to a liverpool manager who slates St. Stevie or St. Suarez for diving.

Oh wait I forgot, its only when Sir Alex does stuff its hypocritical and mind games.

Next thing you know Dogleash will get upset at the media twisting his words and suddenly all the thick scousers will start saying he should boycott the bbc.

Agreed the Downing one was made even worse by the fact if he'd chased the ball he had a chance of getting it. Exaggerating fouls or diving call it what you like, I never realised football was officially a non contact sport now. The way I see it whether or not there's contact if you can stay on your feet then you should endeavour to do so. Players who flop to the floor just because a defender touches their fingernail don't deserve free kicks whether or not they play for us.

You're right that Fergie raising this has brought it to the fore...but that's exactly my point...if we're naive enough to think that when he makes statements like this it has no influence on match officials and media alike then the last 20 years have taught us nothing.

Like it or not when Fergie speaks people sit up and take notice. So...when he accuses you of going down too easily what do you think the ideal response would be?? To spend the following game trying desperately to prove him wrong and make him look bitter and foolish or to spend the following game doing pretty much exactly what he's accused you of doing and in front of a live tv audience?

    It's not rocket science IMO
