I would rather Brentford win and Newcastle loose, such is my desire to see them go down.

I don’t often get it right, which is why I don’t gamble, but I called the Newcastle game right.
Leeds really should have done so much better, especially in the first half when they were getting behind the Toon defence at will, without creating chances, partly because of a poor final pass and partly because they weren’t getting enough players in the middle for the cut backs and crosses.
A poor goal to concede, from a free kick that Llorente shouldn’t have given away.

I read earlier that Brentford are looking to extend Frank’s contract. But is he starting to crack up?

His comments after losing to us were proper head in the sand stuff and I think similar in their last defeat

Sent off today and then these comments:

"We 100% didn’t deserve to lose at all, it’s at least a draw. They are the two chances we conceded in the game and both are outside the box. We are struggling to get points in this moment in time but the good news is that they are good performances."

Surely it doesn’t matter whether the chances conceded are inside or outside the box? Similar to how he claimed we created nothing. But scored four goals? Not really a sensible comment at all

He's speaking in terms of xG, essentially. Chances from outside the box don't end up in your net with any regularity, and Wolves ended up with 2 goals from .22 xG, which is pretty damned lucky. Wolves' shot attempts in the match produced the lowest xG total of any team in January, actually.

The should have realised that due to it being Wolves: surely their XG would have them much lower given how few goals they have scored

I'm not sure I follow. Coming into this match, Wolves' actual goals total was actually significantly below their expected goals total: they had 17 goals versus 22.36 xG. So by the numbers they had been a bit unlucky prior to today, where they were incredibly lucky.

What I meant was they have basically got more points than you would expect given how few goals they have scored. Regardless of what XG says they have been fortunate with how they have been distributed

I explained badly and incorrectly used an XG reference

I’m basically saying they should have expected Wolves to be jammy gits and come away with undeserved points. They have been doing it most of the season

Reading the City forum, they are absolutely apoplectic, calling the ref **** and biased against them, VAR rigged, us cheats and going on about how **** their players are (Foden highlighted particularly).

I have a feeling that they may have just lost some perspective.

VAR did do us a favour today. The pen shout was probably just outside which is why it wasn’t given and the Armstrong challenge could easily have been a red, Souness and Richards both thought it was red.

Tbf we probably did get lucky with Armstrong (although most of them are saying we should have been down to 9?). Never a penalty though.

Just makes me laugh that they can be so mad with one non-win in 13 and very surprised with how unhappy they seem with some of their players.

Also the further I get down the thread there does appear to be some realists, maybe the ones who have a memory that extends beyond the mid noughties.

I assume they also think Bednarek should be sent off ?

It comes to something when you have hundreds of millions worth of talent, one player who cost more than our starting line up, a second eleven who would finish above is in a league system and you are complaining that you didn’t get the chance to try and beat southampton with 9 or 10 players on the pitch? They should be embarrassed. Not looking for excuses

Didn’t sound like Pep did any of that at least. Imagine if it had been Klopp?

Someone in the bbc comment section claims that every seasons southampton try to help Liverpool by putting in a shift against their rivals

Do they not know how we feel about Liverpool in general ?

I think that the highlughts in MotD suggested to me that Leeds should have taken their chances and Alan Shearer's comments somewhat flattered Newcastle. The goal they scored was a goalkeeper error. I concede that the highlights suggested Newcastle improved in the second half but what little of the game that was shown did not really suggest Howe has revitalised them.

On Thursday I was thinking that this weekened would define the relegation battle. I had anticipated both Norwich and Newcastle to lose whilst also expecting Everton to reverse their fortunes. The relegation zone is shaping up to be far more exicitng than anticipated and it will be interesting to see if Burnley come up with a surprise result too. I am quite pleased to see Norwich pull clear and think how brilliant it would be if Burnley. Newcastle an Everton go down. I have a feeling that Watford are doomed.

Truly baffling comment on the BBC football podcast where one of the guys saying Callum Wilson is viral as her will “guarantee” 10 goals before the end of the season

It didn’t sound like he meant four more on top of his current six

And he still has 6 weeks out

So apparently Wilson will guarantee 10 more goals in:

    - 11 games
    - for a total of 16 in a PL season which he has achieved … never

Astonishing stuff. I don’t think this was even an ex pro saying this so I don’t know who they wheel out for this but anyone can spout nonsense like this if that is all it takes
